So, I intend to apply for MD/PhD programs (slacking on the AMCAS), but as these are so competitive, I'm trying to decide what I should do for a plan B. I'm thinking of applying to some research-focused schools as just MD, like CCLCM. Does anyone know of any other programs like this? I haven't found any so far.

I've read that many of the MD/PhD schools forward your application to their MD counter-parts after they reject you, but isn't this way late to get a fair shot at the MD? Has anyone actually gotten in this way?

Thanks!

I know of a few people that did not get MD/PhD at the schools of their choice, but did get into top MD programs (MD drop down, after MSTP rejection). They took the MD only program and reapplied for MD/PhD during their first year. They were admitted then.

no point... if you really want to do an MSTP, do it all or nothing... sure apply to the MD programs in case of a disaster, but focus on the MD/PhD. You must focus.

yeah the MD-only (after MSTP rejection) thing usually just invovles checking a box. it's not back-up plan you need to pursue with much rigor - other than letting schools know that you're interested. i wouldn't bother applying to MD programs unless it's a state school that may not have an MD/PhD program.
