Hey guys me and a friend of mine are both goign to NYCOM (class of 2011). We both went Marist College and decided that bc we know thaty we are not psycho that we should try to get an apartment together. One guy one girl (not going out or f*** buddies, just friends) so we are looking for guys or girls. We are looking to live CLOSE to NYCOM and defintly on long island. We are looking to spend 500-800 a piece which we can do if we get another 1-3 roomates. Neither of us are antisocial mediclones, but we arent slacker geniuses either. We study hard but also know how to have a good time. We both have good families and groups of friends so we wont be clingy onto you (if you dont like to be that social). Getting rent paid shouldnt be inconsistent or anything like that.

Both of us are yound, unmarried, no kids or anything like that. were just looking for a normal first year NYCOM student who isnt an A-hole.

Respond to the thread with questions/ interests or you could private emssage me for more info

I just received my acceptance and more than likely will be entering the class of 2011 at NYCOM. While I fully intend to relocate a bit closer to the campus, I'm not sure if I would rather live alone or with others. This may seem like an asinine request, but I thought perhaps you or anyone else in the same situation might PM me a myspace link (if you have one; I do and would be happy to send you mine in return) in order to determine whether or not we may be compatible roomates.

Congrats on your acceptances to NYCOM...I'm actually graduating and the house I've lived in for my entire time at NYCOM is actually going to be up for rent if any of you are interested.

It's a 4 1/2 bedroom/2 bath house in Hicksville (15 minutes from campus and near all the malls/restaurants).

Landlord is really cool....Rent is $2500 + utilities. Right now, we have 5 people living there (the 1/2 room works for him...) and we end up paying an average of 650 per month. If you are interested, PM me and I will hook you up with a tour and my landlord's number.

More Info:

+dishwasher, +fireplace, +Washer/Dryer, +1 car garage, tons of free parking, nice residential neighborhood, safe!

In case you are wondering, utilities are as follows: Oil, Electricity, Cable/Phone/Wireless Internet (optimum package)

House is ready as of June 1! Upon signing you need 1st, last and one month security.

Use craig list and newsday. Check hicksville, glen cove, glen head, sea cliff, roslyn, westbury, old wesbury, etc.

Those are the places that I have been checking. When talking to students already there I was told 2 basic things about housing:

1) find a place where your commute will be North-South and not East-West bc of the traffic

2)live in glen cove if at all possible- most people live there and its closest tp campus

Dead on. Glen cove or anywhere in the vicinity - ie Rosyln, sea cliff, glen head, offer reasonably short commutes (7-10 min) with none to little traffic congestion and have a couple gyms, restaurants, food stores and a movie theater.

Hi Rich (and everyone else)- I am goin to NYCOM in the fall also and looking for roomates. I would definately be interested in moving into a house and the prices you listed sound perfect. You can email me directly at [email protected]. Hope to hear from you soon- Liza

Here is where things stand right now

I went to the area to scout places and the area. All the areas look really nice and really quite. They are mostly 3-4 bedroom places w/ 1 or 2 bedrooms. (2 cost more and one is attached to a master/ bigger bedroom). They are all houses that are rented out to students of NYCOM/ NYIT. The places will MOST likely run 550-750 per person plus utilities (35-50/per). Im goign to be making calls and talking to people I know in the area and try to get a place from a second year. I see this board is getting lots of views so im glad i started this early.

In terms of the apartment itself. Once i get calls for specific places I'll webshot them into my facebook profile or something of the sort soo you can get an idea of the places. Most of them have a full kitchen, living room, small dinning room, bathroom, and 3-4 bedrooms.

In tersm of selecting a roomate. Im going to be open with everyone who is interested but am looking for some things in particular:

The person actually doesnt mind talking (to me).
The person knows how to do their own dishes without leaving them in the sink for a week .
The person doesnt mind other people in the house under reasonable conditions

If you are intersted, awesome! Id like to hear from you I can PM/email you my facebook profile and stuff like that. It would help immensly if you did the same. If your more of a phone person Ill chat it up to

Cheers class of 2011

**Idk about pets and such, as we havent picked a few places yet. I assume that it might complicate things though. Shame bc I do like animals (especially the kind that dont shed/poop on couches)

i've been accepted and as of now that's where i'll be going. i too plan on seeking roommates to share an apartment or such.

oh yes- i'd prefer not to live with males. i'm a guy and not a pervert, i just tend not to get along with other males.

hey guys, glad i found this thread, i will also be attending nycom this august, im interested in finding compatible roommates, message with any info, thanks

Hii!!! I just joined and got my NYCOM acceptance letter yesterday. I am def looking for people to live with! I'll send you my e-mail if you are interested! Let me know!!! CONGRATS to everyone!!

Hey Everyone; Just wanted to say Congradulations to the new incoming members of the NYCOM class of 2011. I am an entering student as well, and am in search of an apartment/roomates... any advise or openings let me know.
Once again good luck, and see you all at orientation!

Hey guys and sorry for the loong delay in the responses (especially those who sen a PM, I have not forgotten. This is the situation so far. As of now we are a group of three and will be looking for 1-2 more MAX, if that. anything else gets redonkulous and I dont want to be the student landlord in proxy. I thank all of you for your responses.

We have started looking but have not found a place so far. We are looking in glen cove, sea cliff and roslyn. hicksvill will be an option if we cannot find something we like in those areas. If we see a place that is more than 3 bedrooms then we will go back to the list of contacts and based on who is still interested, will contact and talk too. For those of you who expressed interest send me a email at [email protected]. That is my best contact as I work 7-4 and coach at night. Im dont going to put my sell on the board but if you want to get a look at my facebook and/or my cell number then email me something about yourself first. Email contact/ profile/ short personal add thingy on what kind of person you are and what your looking for. I dont want to sound ahole and turn people down upfront but we are looking for compatability. We have an idea what kind of person will gel well with us.

sorry if this sounds cold and snooty. I'm not trying too but Ive never done this before and am going by ear. I wanna help people put but also dont want to live with someone that I dont like. Im sure the same goes for you

Rich

Diana- you are on the list
Nick- got message. email me. will email soon, promise
Others- lets talk

Yeah apparently I cant type either. That sentence of garble was supposed to say that im not going to put my cell number up on the SDN board, so eail me if you wanan talk. I dont bite I promise.

hmm ok so what're the options if someone wanted to rent an apartment or a section of a home... I didnt see any apt buildings in glen oak and please dont say queens...

definatly not queens. Glen cove and hicksville are what we are looking for. It is mostly likely going to result in renting a house bc there is one apt complex I know of in the area

in regards to all this apartment talk , anyone know if most leases start in june ? Anyone know the start dates / orientation dates for class 2011 NYCOM!!! Ill be looking for housing prob in glen clove also. Looking for a chill arangement with good people, relatively clean, social but not fraternity.

Leases start as early as june but as late as september. it all depends. old westbury, where the school is located, is well known by landlords and when it gets closer to august, they jack up the price because they know you're desperate. some places on the north shore will offer good deals if you wait until after labor day because they rent out their beach homes...the only problem with that is that school starts the 2nd/3rd week of august. most people want to be settled in before then.

my only advice to any of you - regardless of where you are looking to live and when you are looking to move in is be careful. landlords on long island know how to maneuver students. the most popular trick this year that i've seen with a few NYCOMers is getting kicked out of their apartment in the middle of the year because basement apartments are illegal in long island. in fact, you have to have a license to rent/lease a property in long island. it has to do with taxes of your landlord. so be very careful. the cases i've seen is that a neighbor of theirs "tells" on the landlord because of some internal tiff they are having and the only losers are the tenants. do your research before you find a place.....or make sure that there have been years of students living there to insure a good reputation on the landlord.

best of luck to all of you finding new homes. if anybody has any questions, feel free to pm me.

Hey guys anyone have openings for a roommate? I lived offcampus for my college (suny binghamton) so I know how to take care of myself, tidy up, clean dishes, be neat, etc. If anyone has any openings PM me or email me at [email protected]

Hi everyone! I will also most likely be a member of NYCOM class of 2011 and can't wait to meet all of you! I am also looking for some roomies so please let me know if you are interested....I would prefer to live with girls and consider myself pretty easy to live with. You can email me at [email protected] Thanks!

Hello, I will also be attending NYCOM this august and will be needing a roomate(S). I am a 23yr female.. and not specific about the guy/girl arrangment. Just need some buddies.. 😀 I just need to start somewhere. I was also wondering if that 4 bedroom house still has spots?

I am planning to go out there some time in the next couple weeks to look at some potential houses/apartments near NYCOM. Would anyone want to meet up and come with?

Yes, the room in my house are still open. If you are interested, please read the original post and you can email me at [email protected]

The person doesnt mind other people in the house under reasonable conditions

lol, aka - "The person doesn't mind if we throw parties"

Just a word of advice for those of you who are going to move in with someone. This is EXACTLY what you want to avoid. You're better off finding people who are quiet and study at home. When you want to party just go out to one of the many bars and clubs around here, and know that you can come back to your quiet home/apartment later that night to sleep it off, and study the next day. This isn't college. You're all over 21. There comes a point when house parties become a thing of the past, simply because it's not worth dealing with cleaning up, neighbors, cops, and disturbing roommates. Then again, if you find 3 or 4 people who can keep their grades up and don't care about noise then all the more power to ya.

Attention NYCOM Class of 2011 apartment seekers:

I will be starting at NYCOM this fall, and I am now looking for 2 roommates for a house in Glen Cove. If you are interested, please PM me and I can send you more information (location, rent, dates, etc.).

Some comments from the current tenant, also a NYCOM student, who will be leaving (as will his two roommates) to be closer to clinicals:

"I really lucked out with the house. The location, landlord, drive to school, proximity to the train, gym...I could keep going."

"It worked out really well...it's definitely one of the nicest places I've seen any of the students living in...very roomy, 3 bedroom and 2 and half bathrooms, big kitchen, backyard, washer/dryer in the basement...house is the perfect distance from the train, just close enough to walk it and far enough to not really hear it."

Sounds cool , im looking for just that! when does the lease begin?

Hey all,

Im going to NYCOM this upcoming fall and am interested in off campus housing. Im from the area (Northport) but I will not be living at home because I want to be close to the school (aka 15 min is a bit much, but not out of the question). I'm a smart girl who gets her work done, but I'm really social and like to have fun. I'm finishing up my "senior week" in upstate NY but I will be home soon to start looking for prospects in housing. Let me know if you have openings in houses/apts. Either PM or email [email protected]. Exciting!!

Hey All,

Adam here, NYCOM class of 2010, DPC program. I'm going to be moving out of my current apartment, and I'm trying to find someone to take my spot.

I live in a house that has 4 apartments, all with NYCOM students. It's located less than 2 minutes away from NYCOM, with plenty of restaurants/shopping centers in the area. My apartment is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. There will be one available bedroom, and you'd be getting your own bathroom. The apartment also has a large living room as well as a kitchen, and a huge back yard with plenty of parking. The rent is ~$725/month and utilities ~$25/person each month, and TV/Internet/Phone varies with your choice of provider. The apartment should be available sometime in June as I hope to be moved out by then.

If you have any questions, or if you're interested, email me at [email protected] - I usually don't check the forum so that email is best.

Best of luck guys,

Adam Litroff, OMS I

We have 2 BR available in a 3BR 2.5 Bath duplex with a basement / garage / back patio / Central air / washer/dryer / about 7-10 min from NYCOM in Glen Cove on a dead end street. We live walking distance to downtown Glen Cove including a $10/month gym, public library, restaurants, MMA place, movie theatre, starbucks, etc. We're about 0.65mi from the LIRR station. Must love dogs! We have a very friendly, quiet, lazy 9 month old puppy who lounges around the house; he pretty much hangs with me most of the day and sleeps in my room. He hardly barks, but he will expect to be petted when someone new comes in the house. 😉 He's great to watch tv with or jog outside with. Rent for the room will be $550 or $600 depending on which room. Utilities are not included and are split b/w us(~$80/each). The lease starts on July 15; however if you want to wait to move in some of my roommates might be willing to stay till Aug 15 if you want to save yourself a month's rent, but that is up to you. Shoot me a PM for more info or call (nine-seven-three)955-6778.
