Not for a while but its a good idea to get your fafsa and parents' 2005 tax returns in asap
 
Anyone have additional info about NYU Financial aid.

I tried calling the office several times and no one ever picked up.
I tried a couple of months ago and same thing happenned. It's almost like their office is closed (or they don't want to talk to me 😀 )

Anyone konws when fin aid info is coming out?
 
I don't really have anything to add besides what has already been said if you had your FAFSA and parent's info (and your info as well, or a statement of not filing) in by the 1st of March they would mail them around Apr 1. I had my FAFSA turned in way early, but didn't mail the tax return copy until a few weeks ago. Here's hoping we'll hear soon.
 
Has anyone been able to find an academic calendar for NYU, or at least an orientation start date/classes start date?

Edit: I found the info for 2003, they had orientation August 18th and classes started the 25th . . . so the answer is probably orientation starting the 14th or 21st and classes starting the following week.

Edit 2: For 2005 they started orientation Monday the 22nd and classes August 29th, so that would suggest a start date of August 21st for orientation and 28th for classes.

I remembered reading about a tentative schedule in a previous post a REALLY long time ago, so I went hunting for it. Here it is!

Still waiting on finaid but after paranoia set in about my housing app not getting to NYU (I malied it weeks ago and the check hasn't cleared) I e-mailed them and got a reply that they had it . . . shew.
 
Just called the Financial Aid Office (201 263 5286); Good thing I did because they don't have my 2005 tax return records.

The lady said they were just starting the award packets which means it'll be out within the next couple of weeks.

I have never gotten a live person when calling the Fin Aid office.
Last week, I left a message and never got a call back.
At least they picked up the phone for someone.

I haven't either, but I wanted to comment to keep the thread alive. I always check it when I come onto SDN, and I get semi-disappointed when there is nothing new to read.

I did get an email from NYU about my holding acceptances at other schools. It said they are trying to fill in the class and to make a decision soon (funny, with FA info, right?). Anyway, so I withdrew from my other acceptances (dun dun dun). I guess that means waitlists will be moving soon!

I just received my Financial Aid Award via e-mail. I'm sure everyone else did as well, so check your inbox if you haven't yet!

I think I'm happy with it, though I would have preferred not to have so much of it as unsubsidized loans 🙂

Financial aid packets came out in the email today:

Dear Student,

Congratulations on your acceptance to the Class of 2010. The following lists the financial aid we have awarded you for the academic year 2006-2007. You will receive a paper copy of your official award letter via mail within the next few days. Additional information concerning your award will be sent to you at that time. Until that time, you may consider this your official award notification. Best wishes for a successful academic year.

Got my award today too.
Yea, definitely loans will be the way to go.
I was really excited about NYU and now this.
GRRR, this whole process is tough....money.....money....money.

My award is essentially ALL loans (some subs and 30 of unsubs loans)
No private loans I guess, so I can't complain in that respect.


Are you guys worried about borrowing so much?
 
I'm really worried about borrowing so much.. it's gonna suck paying it off, but it's even more worrisome about letting it affect your specialty choice. Although somebody from NYU told me not to worry, docs don't have trouble paying it off. I hope he's right.

But.. this package was surprisingly way better for me at least than the one I got from the other private school I was considering. It's all loans, but a good chunk of it is subsidized, and it should almost cover everything, whereas the other school just gave me the two staffords and told me I'm on my own for 20k more in private loans. So in that sense, not bad.

I got 3500, but I think it's need based.
Everything else is loans.
 
Hey guys, just wanted to say that I officially made my decision to come to NYU next year! It's such a sweet school.. I can't wait to see y'all for orientation. If you're in the city over the summer feel free to PM me and we can meet up sometime.

I got $3250 in scholarship, I would also guess it was need based (yay for my sister starting undergrad at the same time I'm starting med school).

I officially sent in the last of my withdraw letters today (just couldn't help but hang on for a while) and have withdrawn from all of my waitlists . . . so it's NYU or nothing for next year . . . def. exciting . . . can't wait to meet everyone.

Haha. It's coming so fast! Someone volunteer to do all the fun touristy things with me when I come in August! The last time I was there was when I was 13, and I hardly remember it!
 
The yankees are playing the tigers at yankee stadium the first week of school...i REALLY want to go check out yankee stadium🙂
