Wanted to start up a thread for all those still waiting to hear from NYU (and given in to the waitlist/rejection future)...

Anyone have word from NYU yet?

I'm still waiting, and by now I'm 95% sure it's a waitlist/rejection, so I will join this thread!

I'll join you guys! fun. can you believe there has been no word yet? does anyone know if NYU's waitlist is "ranked"?

I'm so in! This waiting is torture. Seriously, NYU if you had to review my application to know that you didn't want to accept me, you could have at least had the decency to decide then if I was good enough for the waitlist. Does anyone know when they are going to start sending out the waitlists/rejections?

I don't think anyone has heard yet.

I haven't heard yet either, so I'll join! I called a few days ago, and she didn't ask for my info or anything and said they will be sending notifications until the 15th....judging by how its gone so far, I am going to guess that means sometime in April? I mean, come on guys, if you're gonna take the time to write out a letter saying we'll get a decision by January 31st, then you might want to actually do it. If they had said something like "be patient in this process" like some schools, at least i would know I was in for the long haul! 🙂 Okay, just venting, but here's to hopin' we hear something soon, and that there's a miniscule chance that it could possibly be good news!

I'm glad you you called in. Now, we know that we will be getting the NYU waitlist/rejections soon 🙂

I called and asked about if my letter was mailed, they said don't call till March and call then if you still haven't heard. I said "well, I heard you have to get back to them in two weeks and I've had probs with my mail, I don't want to miss the deadline." The lady said "oh, those are only for acceptances." Ouch, guess that means I'm not getting in right away.

I called yesterday and was told "all the letters went out yesterday" (Wednesday). So... I guess we'll be seeing them soon?

Cool. At least we won't have to wait much longer. (assuming that's true. seems like we've been getting a lot of conflicting stories lately)

The way NYU has conducted the notification process has really lowered my opinion of them. Had I received an acceptance from them pre-fiasco I would have truly considered going there but now I am really not that upset I haven't been accepted. It has worked out quite nice because I thought the AECOM NYU decision was going to be extremely difficult, but it was basically made for me.

I was waitlisted.... According to the people there, its not ranked.

Did you get the letter today? ?

Someone on Wall of Shame thread posted NYU rejection. Apparently, NYU started sending out rejections?

yep that was me, letter dated feb 15 - got it today (live in NYC) - post-secondary (and lots of issues with recommendation letters), no interview.

I am in NYC as well, and did not interview. I know I am rejected, just expecting a paper-form letter in the mail 😳 I am jealous of those who will be studying medicine at NYU 😳

i'm in boston and just got the waitlist letter in the mail today

Just got my waitlist letter today. I live on Long Island. Did anyone who interviewed at NYU get rejected??? I really feel like they just waitlist anyone who interviewed but didn't get accepted.

Yup... it's in a regular sized envelope. You have to send a letter in to notify them about whether or not you wanna stay on the list

I got the waitlist letter today. An earlier post said it wasnt ranked... what does that mean?

i was also placed on the waitlist, found out over the phone and was told there was no ranking. SO is that a good thing or not cos i dont really know what that means. ANyways, it's all good./

do you guys plan on staying on the waitlist?

waiting for months and months doesn't sound too appealing to me...I don't know what I'm going to do if I get waitlisted. I'd rather get rejected, to be honest. :-/

Haha. I do know what you mean. It'd almost be easier to be rejected. But I am definately staying on the waitlist. NYU is my first choice so if there is any shot I can be there, I'm taking it. It will suck to wait for now and not know where I will be, but in the long run if I do get in, I'll be happier.

I just don't know how to get off the waitlist! I already wrote a letter of intent which obviously didn't help....any ideas?

did anyone who interviwed NOT get anything today? i am new new york, so assumed i would have heard before most, but i havnt got anything!

What Does A Non Ranked Waitlist Mean?!?!

i think it means depending on who drops out, they invite someone similar in? there is no order of people that get to go.

I didn't get a letter today, but then again I'm in Illinois so it might just be taking a little longer to get to me.

me neither, in cali.

I am in St. Louis and I haven't gotten my letter in the mail yet. I interviewed in September.

I think that it means that instead of ranking everyone on the waitlist and taking them off it in order, you are just in a big pool of people. When a spot opens up they either randomly take from the pool or they re-examine those still on the list and take the best canidate. That means that if you are wait listed at that type of school(that reviews apps for each new spot) you can increase your chances by sending update letters, doing a new EC, taking a class, etc.

I recently got my waitlist notification as well. Does NYU really waitlist everyone who isn't accepted? How many people do you think are on the waitlist and what is the average chance of being pulled off the list?

bump...looking for answers to this question also.

Me too....i wonder if they waitlisted all of us???

It says we need to notify Nancy Genieser in writing if we want to stay on the waitlist. I'm assuming this can be done through email? She didn't list an email address...does anyone know what it is?

I called and they told me to email [email protected].
Has anyone found out anything about # on the waitlist/ # accepted off?

I got my letter yesterday. WOOO!!! Guess I'll stick with it and see what happens.

I am actually one of the few applicants (in the world, apparently) that received a post-interview rejection. NYU was one of my favorite schools, and since I felt I had a fairly good interview, I was really, really sad and surprised after opening the letter. In any case, some people are indeed rejected after interview. =P

I am really sorry. This whole med school process is a whole crapshoot anyway. Best of luck at other schools!

I have decided to withdraw from the waiting list. I got accepted to a few other good schools, and I can't see myself accepting the offer even if I got in, so I am gonna leave the spot for someone who really wants it. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Thanks for letting us know whootman- It provides some hope. Good luck wherever you end up going! :luck:

Oh by the way. Today the admissions office told me that the waitlist usually starts moving a bit after the second look weekend. I guess people may withdraw afterwards...interesting.

Anyone get any news yet?

Just trying to offer some useful information, not be depressing, but . . .

There were 160 people who attended the 2nd look, they said this represented 40% of the accepted students and they only expected about 100 or so to come. This means there was a total of around 400 accepted students. I have no idea how big the waitlist is or how much it will move, just wanted to offer some figures for those waiting.

I don't know exactly what it means . . . I'm not sure NYU knows what it means. Just wanted to put out the numbers . . . best of luck.

A positive perspective for you waitlisters:

I think nearly everyone I talked to at revisit was still waiting to hear from other schools. So impressed though that 160 may have been with NYU, it was without their potential non-rolling choices yet available to them.

I really do think that this bodes well for the waitlist, and that the number of current acceptances shouldn't be too intimidating.

If I wind up at NYU, I hope to see lots of you there! :luck:
