I received this by email, and thought I would pass it on to those who may qualify:

Our Radiation Oncology Residency Program is pleased to announce that we have a PGY-2 residency opening beginning in July 2007. We are now accepting applications for this position. This is an out-of-match position.

In order to expedite the application process, any available materials may be e-mailed or faxed to us. Original or official copies of the Dean's letter and transcript will be required if you are selected and invited for interview.

Eligibility requirements:

All residents must hold the M.D. degree and they must be graduates of schools approved by the LCME or, in the case of international schools, approved for listing by the World Health Organization or equivalent accrediting bodies and possess a valid ECFMG certificate.
Only J-1 visas are accepted for medical residency positions at the University of Rochester.
Prior to entering our Program, residents must have completed one year of postgraduate clinical training in either internal medicine, family practice, obstetrics/gynecology, surgery or surgical specialties, pediatrics, a categorical radiation oncology year, or a transitional year program.
The PGY-1 year must include at least 9 months of direct patient care in medical and/or surgical specialties other than radiation oncology.

Application Process

All complete applications received prior to the deadline are reviewed in their entirety. Medical graduates who meet our criteria are selected for an interview and notified via email. Interviews will be held on Saturdays in January and February. Alternate interview days may be possible.

International Medical Graduates: International candidates and international medical graduates may apply for admission to our Residency Program, with these additional submission requirements:

Prior clinical experience in radiation oncology in the United States is not required for international students to apply. However, all applicants must have completed an internship year prior to entering our Residency Program.
We sponsor only J-1 visas. We also recognize ‘green cards’.
You must have passed Parts I and II of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
You must be eligible to be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
 
I got that email too. I was about to go ahead and apply but then realized it was for a PGY2 spot in 2007, not 2008. I wonder why they sent it to us...
 
because there are that many people applying for 2008 who didnt match or want to transfer...
