Hi, sorry to post another thread so soon, but I was wondering if anesthesiology (as an attending) is amenable to part time work? I have a real passion for public health and would love to devote some of my professional time towards an NGO or other organization, but it is hard to earn a decent living with these jobs. BTW, I understand ER is more ideal for this kind of combination, but I cannot stand it. Thanks in advance.

You could do "locum tenens" which is basically where you pick up shifts and get paid as an independent contractor. You don't get any benefits, but you get paid at a higher rate. You can choose the days you want to work.

FYI, I doubt you're a fellow in the SDN sense of the word. It seems pretty clear you're a pre-med, otherwise you'd probably know this. In medicine, a fellow is someone who's completed residency and is currently in a fellowship. You might want to change your tag.

Goodman,

My fellow Pre-Med Anesthesiologist. I think Oto is indeed a PGY-X. Unhappy with specialty, he/she is looking around. Checked the 5 other posts under OPs belt.

As a pre-med I tend not to police tags. Ya know, the whole Pre-Med thing... 😉

Good luck in MD school this year! If you weren't a year ahead of me, by the looks of your other posts, I'd have already offered to open up a practice with you.

Best,

Oh, man. If so, totally my bad! My "pre-med"-sense started tingling, and I shoulda' sleuthed it a bit more before posting what I did.

Anywho, good call on the tag policing as well. Prolly should keep that to a minimum. If it's any defense, I was less trying to be a d*** about it and more just trying to help a guy out with some clarification.

Last, but not least, thanks for the good wishes. Starting to get excited about the fall. Down to two schools right now, and waiting for the financial aid packages before making the final call. As for practices, I'm all for partnering up. I'm kinda tied to PA or VA though, and I'm not sure that's your locale. Good luck on apps. This time last year, I was wrapping up the finishing touches on personal statement and studying for the MCAT. Seems like not that long ago.

Personal statement? Child's play. 😀

MCAT? I feel like a child PLAYING. :scared:😱:scared:

That's too bad, I can't do the PA/VA thing. Unless I get the Peds Fellowship at CHOP, then I'm in.

So, there is hope yet...

Hijack over.
