Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone could help me out with info on getting around Pittsburgh. Mainly, I am wondering about the bus from the airport that goes into Oakland. Are any of the hotels that were listed in the packet within reasonable distance of the bus stops? I am booked at Shadyside now, but I still have more than enough time to change my mind. (Assuming other hotels aren't booked up). What is the area like in the evening, as far as safetly goes? Of course, I would never hang out late in an unfamiliar area, I was just thinking about evening, say 5-6 PM, when my plane arrives.

Thank you guys so much for your help, in advance!

Take the shuttle from airport. Wyndham Garden is the nearest to the school. (3blocks or so). And they have lots of interviewees stay with them. If you opt to take the bus, Wyndham is also a few steps from the bus stop. So, you can just walk right over.
Just to let you know that I'll be there next week too🙂

Thanks Tink! I'm going to check on the Wyndham now. Do you have any more info on the airport shuttle, like when it leaves, the cost, where it stops etc? I've never been to the city before so I'm completely clueless! I don't know what I would do with out help from this board!

Dragonfly,

The shuttle runs every half hour or so. It goes straight from the airport to all hotels in oakland area (near the school) only. The bus stop is right at the corner of Forbes ave right at Wyndham.
Shuttle costs about 12 bucks, the bus costs about $3.50. (So keep the spare change with you). Or you can show student ID and ride the bus for free in Pittsburgh

Lots of interviewees stay at Wyndham, they come down to meet in the morning at the lobby. I think pitt and temple have the best interviews. Very organize and friendly atmosphere.

I'm staying at the Wyndham as well. I hope to see the both of you next week.

Hey guys! I switched my reservation to the Wyndham Garden on Tink's suggestion. I think I will feel a lot more comfortable staying closer to the school and to transportation. Thanks a bunch for the help! Tink and ktran, are you arriving on the Saturday or the Sunday?

Hello dragonfly9,
My interview at UPitt will be on the 10th. I ahve not received the package but I already have booked the flight and I am looking to book for the same hotel as you did. Would you be so kind and give me the phone number for that hotel, please (Wyndham GArden)?
Thanks,
AJ🙂

Hey!

The phone number for the Wyndham Hotel is 1-877-662-6242. The group rate code was 102- Dental Medicine recruitment. . .the room is 95$ with the code. Hope this helps!

Hey, Wyndham Hotel has a special Dental Medicine recruitment rate of $95?? Well if you haven't booked it yet, try Expedia first. I booked from Expedia.com for $76 + tax & fees. 😕
dragonfly9 & Tink, I'll be staying there on Sat & Sun night.

Hello Ktran02 and Dragonfly9,
thanks for the help!
I'll go first to the expedia as it sounds to eb cheaper to book this way.
Thanks
(I'll be there Sat and Sunday before the 10th, too.) Anybody else?
See you
AJ😀

ktran and dragon fly, I'll stay there on Sun night. I'll arrive pitt early Sun morning.
Thanks for the expedia tip, I haven't even booked the hotel yet. I'd better do it now
Tink

Thanks for the info, ktran! I cancelled my reservation through the hotel and booked on expedia. It probably saved me 40-45 dollars for the 2 nights!

Hi ktran & groundhog,

I found out that I got accepted to ucsf on friday night, so I canceled my pitt interview. Sorry didn't have a chance to meet you guys.
What do you guys think of the school?

Tinker Bell, congrats on the UCSF acceptance!! If I were in your position I would have cancelled too. Too bad we didn't meet.
As for UPitt, I enjoyed the interview and the facilities were decent. The brand new sim labs were better than UOP's. Aside from facilities, I felt pitt had an overall solid program, but not nearly as good as Temple's clinical program.
