I am non-URM (caucasian)

MCAT: 31

GPA's:
Double major: Biology/Psychology
Undergraduate: 3.5 cGPA, 3.32 sGPA, 3.7 non-scienceGPA
However, I am doing grade forgiveness next semester in a 3-credit biology class where I received a D. I also have 1 W from a semester where I was taking 22 credits and had to drop. The class was a 4-credit biology class.

Transfer: I have transferred twice due to financial problems -- from a private institution, to a state college, to a state university. Do you think this will affect my application process?

Employment:
I have worked part-time for every semester I have been in college.
Employment includes:
1) Faculty Service Assistant (2 semesters)
2) General Biology/General Chemistry tutoring (1 semester)
3) Resident Assistant (1 semester)
4) Work study for SGA (1 semester)
5) Basketball Coach (1 semester)

Research:
2 poster publications in infectious disease --- 3 by graduation
Univ of Tennessee Research Assistant - summer
Research with a national laboratory - summer 10 wk program
Research with a hospital's neuroscience department

Clinical EC's:
250+ hours at a local hospital --> patient liaison, surgical services assistant, ED volunteer
I have shadowed over 15 specialties - peds, ophth, vascular, ENT, etc.

Non-clinical EC's/Leadership:
Played collegiate basketball at D3-level (4 semesters)
VP of 3 SGA student-run organizations
P of an honor society

Honors/Awards:
Dean's List - 3 semesters
President's List - 2 semesters
Selective research program
Magna Cum Laude (Associate) graduate
Beta Beta Beta honor society
Delta Epsilon Iota honor society
Psi Chi honor society

LORS:
Good LORs - 2 professors I did research and took their class, 2 non-science professors, 2 physicians, and employer.

Options: Medical Master's / Post-bacc / MBA if not matriculated into medical school.

Advice: Any advice, comments, etc are appreciated! Thanks again.

You look good as an applicant to me. Don't put any stock in grade replacement in applying to MD schools as they average every single course you have ever taken. That being said, it will definitely help you in applying to DO schools, but your GPAs are right at the averages for almost all DO schools.

Your transfers, in my opinion, do not negatively affect your application. I don't see how changing schools is bad. You have lots of good EC's. Overall I say you are a good candidate even though your GPA are just a little on the low side MD schools, but definitely in the range of acceptability.

Good luck!!

I forgot to say... Your MCAT is pretty good for MD and great for DO.

Yes, I know MD schools will count both grades. That's fine. Thanks for the comments!

Originally saw your post in the TTUHSC 2013-2014 forum:

You definitely seem well rounded enough to get multiple interviews at MD schools.

Have you shadowed a FP doc? If not then you should and definitely mention it somewhere especially within the TMDSAS applications. (I don't know what Florida and TN schools are looking for.)

Make sure to mention your Texas ties when applying there and why you want to or would consider eventually practicing in Texas. Also, are you at all interested in rural medicine? TTU would love to hear about it if you are.

If you have more questions about TTUHSC SOM or TMDSAS feel free to PM me.

Think its too late if you just sent out your application last week?
