I don't care anymore.

Going to class is painful. I just show up for quizes and tests now. Interestingly, my grades are about the same. It made me realize that whenever I do go to lecture, I just daydream anyway. I probably could have done the same over the last three years with an internet PharmD program and proctored exams. I read through a NAPLEX prep book yesterday. Honestly, with about a month of work, I could pass it no sweat.

But, boy, oh, boy. I really just don't care about school anymore. Two more months and I'm done with didactic schoolwork forever. I can't wait.

Oh man, I know exactly what you mean! Must be a third-year thing. Everyone in my class has about had it.

Agree 100%. I have rotation fever right now. I get to look at what sites are available tomorrow and we pick the week of March 20. I'm so pumped to be done with class soon and its really tough to focus. We can make it though!

I know the feeling. I'm so glad that I started rotations. It's such a nice change and it feels like I'm on vacation. I'm sure I'll be sick of it in a year and be glad to get back to the classroom for my last 8 weeks.

It's gotta be a third year thing. I'm so bad with studying and doing projects where I leave everything until the last second and don't care how well I do. Everyone in my class is like this.

I think it has to do with the fact that 3 years of classes is too draining. Almost every other profession only requires 2 years of didactic schoolwork except law school -- but then they're all done after 3 👎

So do most pharmacy schools not require class attendance? It seems like most med schools don't. I know this is a generalization, but I'd like to get an idea. 😀

It really depends on your professor. Some pass around a roll call, some give quizzes as a form of taking attendance, some do nothing. It irks me when profs take attendance, even though I rarely skip class, because if we skip, that's our problem. I guess I have a problem with authority

I skip class whenever I an evening test, which is pretty often. I am already tired of going to class and this is my first year of pharmacy school. I can't imaging how I am going to feel when I become a P3. I am so ready to start rotations.

the best part is when the professors put up powerpoint slides that you can get off the school website too and everything that they teach and what will be on the exam is from the slides. 😀

that's what my pharmacoeconomics professors is doing. unfortunately, he gives pop quizzes at least once a week too. :\

I'm a second year and pretty much attend only the required labs and case conferences. I only go to lectures on test and quiz days. My grades are actually getting better, so it's even harder to convince myself to go. I feel like rotations are light years away. I know the feeling of wanting to be done. I am so drained and would like to join the real world sometime soon.

Venting does not indicate in any way that we are incapable of practicing clinical pharmacy. Sometimes we just need to let of steam.

So getting burned out = being incapable of practicing clinical pharmacy. Interesting...didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up, I think I'll pass on my clinical job offer then. Damn and I really planned on not ever learning or reading again! Sheesh!

I thought we were all going to be clinical pharmacists... ...at least that's what our school tells us. Just a heads-up, in case you didn't already know: there won't be any more retail pharmacy in a couple of years.

What is clincial pharmacy? I must have missed that definition by never going to class.

I thought I wanted to do retail before starting school and now I do more than ever. Being spoon fed "hospital good, retail evil" every other day sure helped that.

I AM ALSO TIRED OF GOING TO CLASS! Especially when the lecture goes something like "Now class, you need to know that business debits are not like the debits you are used to when you go to the mall, blah, blah, blah, UTOPIA PHARMACY RULES!!!" YOU THINK???

Sorry for the vent, I think I have officially lost it!?!

I am so sick of school already. I'm just a p1 though. 1 more year of didatic work and rotations time. Seriously, I want to get out. I just met my friend who is a p3 at my school and doing rotations (we're on 3 year schedule) and just signed a job offer for 115k and a 10k bonus. I just wanna go out and make 120+k and go home from work and just watch football and relax without worrying about stupid bio sys or whatever! I want out! Unlike medical school, we dont need to pass exceptionally well to get a job so I am so sick of learning.

There is s difference between learning something useful and being forced to learn the transtheoretical stages of change thing for the 20th time. And each time the professor thinks they are showing us somehting new. And each time the professor thinks we care. And each time the professor tinks it's just as important as pathophysiology/therapeutics class.

Dude we're attending the same school. Albeit it we're in different countries, striking similiarities. Some courses we have ~5-6 professors for, where they come in and speak on their 'specialized area', and here is something that is constant for each prof:
- Each prof believes his or her section is the most important
- Each prof believes everyone cares intensely about the subject matter, no matter how strikingly obvious it is that its basically the most boring material ever
- Each prof thinks they are the masters in this area and they basically know everything relating to X subject matter.

All of this happens while in reality, their material is DULL AS HELL and COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT to anything resembling the practice of pharmacy and that THEY WILL NEVER MAKE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO RESEARCH anywhere. Just take a quick look outside the profs offices, im sure they hang their famed publications on the wall - it's on the most ridiculous, irrelevant material that could ever be studied.

Essentially, research profs need to stop being inside the classroom because its obvious they dont have a clue what theyre doing and dont want to be there, and have no idea how to test material in anything resembling a decent manner.

Do you think it's the school you attend or just pharmacy school in general? Just wondering cuz I had a truly horrible undergraduate experience and can relate to your feelings somewhat. I also don't want a repeat of those feelings when I attend pharmacy school this fall.

I loved undergrad. We all had dreams of getting into med school, pharmacy school, etc. Labs were fun. We hung out and studied together.

I truly hate pharmacy school.

🙁 At least you will be out soon. I am scared I will hate it too so I almost want to attend a 3 year program to cut down on the misery. :laugh:

Of course, the added stress may make it even worse than a 4 year program.

So why do pharmacy labs suck, are they tedious and long? Just wondering cuz I really hate undergrad labs (O. Chem).

Pharmacy labs are one of the semi-fun parts of school. At least, they could be fun, but we lose professionalism points if we have fun. Everyone is so effing serious. It drives me crazy. During undergrad, my professors let me give anal probes to all the creatures I dissected. At UF, they would kick me out for something like that.

I know what you mean. Well, I had a really great undergrad experience but I'm afraid I'm not going to like pharmacy school. Not because it will be hard or anything but because I wont know anyone! I haven't been accepted anywhere yet, but I definitely will be leaving NY if I do. It's going to be weird, just like being a little freshman again! I'm also worried about the living situation. I'm a very social person and can't even fathom having to get an apartment alone. I'm afraid I'll be so lonely!!😳

At UIC, the dosing lab period is three hours long. A problem which we have is that we are not given the instructions until the day of the lab. You cannot waste any time, or you will not finish. If late, 2 points can be taken off your grade. One good thing, is that they grade more on completeness than correctness.

I think it's my classmates that make it suck. The kind of people who do nothing but study, they never miss class, they think someone cares (or doesn't think they're insane) that they never go below a 3.5. They think we should all wear business suits and white coats to lectures.
3 hour straight lectures in the late afternoon suck too. After an hour of filling my head I just need a break, and a late afternoon after getting to school early in the morning is impossible to attend.

OK ask me again after I actually start pharmacy school, but I have a feeling Im going to enjoy it so much more than undergrad. I HATED my undergrad. I found myself in a major taking classes I hated, and doing the minumim amount of work to finish it. Ironically all the other classes I took (chemistry, physics, etc.) I did fine in. I am actually interested in pharmacy, therefore I think I will enjoy pharmacy school. *shrug*

Well I hope I enjoy pharmacy school.
I liked undergrad. The organic labs where long.
I hope my class mates are fun, otherwise if they are too stiff is going to suck.
