I searched and didn't see any official thread for UIC yet so I decided to make one. I was accepted Dec. 1 and this is very likely where I will attending next year(but I haven't accepted yet)! I'm excited to get to know some of you that I will likely be classmates with next year!
:welcome:

:hello:

I sent in the deposit last week. 🙂

I'll see you there. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in June.

Make friends with the D13's when you get there, they are really friendly 🙂

Hey guys -

I was accepted to UIC on Dec. 1 and am from MN. Anyone else on here an out-of-stater and get accepted?

Congrats to everyone else.

HI everyone!
Got accepted on Dec. 1st. I sent in the deposit last week and few days ago got the confirmation email for it 🙂))
I am super excited! Are you guys from Chicago?

Accepted Dec. 1. Sent in my deposit Jan. 7. I'm super pumped to get started! I'm from UIUC so I'm in state but not from Chicago. Does anyone know when we need to start looking for housing? Can we get something when we are in town in June?

I currently live in Chicago and am planning to move closer to the campus. I live in the Near North neighborhood now, and I don't want to mess with public transportation when I start class. I would suggest already having some properties you want to view when you are here in June. There are some free services that help you find apartments and, of course, do-it-yourself hunting like Craigs List.

When I moved here a few years ago from Baltimore, I came up on Memorial Day weekend, looked at some properties, and signed a lease for that August. If you start early, you can get what you want and not have to stress. This strategy works well with large buildings that have lots of units, but if you want a walk-up, you may have to do things a little closer to when you want to move. Either way, it is probably a good idea to have what you want in mind.

I would assume that the sooner you can get a place nailed down, the better. I'm probably going to move out there around mid-June (barring an acceptance from Marquette in the near future...). I'm just glad that the Army will be paying for my expenses, because the cost of living in Chicago is a little scary....

Also, I know that in the initial email from Braulia/Carolyn they mentioned that they would be starting a Facebook page for us. I noticed that it hasn't really been going anywhere. Is there one for the students in the incoming class that has been made already?

Chestnut Tower, anyone? 😀

Thanks for the advice. I've been looking into all kinds of apartments and stuff online, but its tough to tell what exactly is good and what is not. I guess I'll just have a list of places I want to check out and then spend a weekend in town to look at them.

I'm guessing they just haven't gotten the facebook page organized yet... I'd also assume that there is not one created by students since they asked us not to start one and to wait for the one they created. I'm guessing that it will be up and running soon(possibly after the 1st round offer acceptance deadline) so that they can send one e-mail to all 1st rounders. Chestnut Tower sounds a bit rich for my blood. haha!

Yeah, me too. More wishful thinking than anything. I just stumbled across it while I was searching for some other places to live a week or so back.

I'm from the class of 2013 and from MN but I wasn't lucky enough to get the army scholarship. I am looking for a roommate starting this summer to live with me and another fellow dental student. If anyone from this class is looking for a place to live for next year I would love to pick up a roommate or two.

Where in MN?

I could potentially be interested, but I'd like to meet/have a chance to talk w/ some of the people in my class first. I imagine it might be easier to live w/ people in your own class as they will be going through the same things (torture? 🙂) as you.

Anyone planning on going to the Clinic and Research Day next Wednesday?

Is there anyone who is very knowledgeable on financial aid matters, and who would like to answer a few of my questions via chat? Send me a Private Message and then I can send you my Gchat or AIM info. This would help me out a lot.
Thanks!

Hi everybody! I just received an acceptance from UIC and I will be joining you this fall. Can't wait to meet all of you 🙂

I also received a call on Monday and I'll likely be joining many of you this fall! It's my first acceptance. 'Bout time! 🙂

Looks like I'll be coming to UIC-COD as well. Look forward to meeting you all on June 11th.

I had noticed some of you guys had some living situation concerns. I did my undergraduate at UIC and lived in an apartment in the area while I was there. If you guys have any questions about the area or about apartment hunting, feel free to ask and I'll give you guys some advice

Is anyone doing the Summer Research Program?
