No news and really don't foresee any. I think I used up all my remaining luck in getting off the one wait list I already have. It'll be a miracle if I get into Penn too! I'm actually debating giving up and withdrawing from the wait list.

no, they aren't mandatory at Penn. they have some mandatory small group stuff, but not lectures. very few schools have mandatory lectures (I'm sure there are some, the only one I know of for sure is the Harvard HST program, where the lectures aren't recorded, but Harvard NP is optional).
 
I JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO PENNNNNNN!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀 This is the best day ever!! I have had a really stupid smile on my face for about 30 minutes and I can't help it!

FYI I was on the regular tier 1 waitlist. I sent a letter of intent, update letter, and a new LOR. I called last week to reiterate my interest. Gaye called me this morning and gave me the wonderful news.

Hey Guys- I, too was accepted on Friday off of the waitlist- regular tier one. Soo psyched- haven't stopped celebrating. For what it was worth I sent a letter of intent in early may and another letter of continuing interest on the 20th- which was marked as received the day before Gaye called me with the wonderful news. I honestly think the second letter helped me a lot- please let them know that you are interested!! Yay for waitlist movement this year!!!

I'm so happy people on this thread are getting off the waitlist and joining our class because everyone here seems so legitimately excited about Penn.

hi all, this is my first time posting. I had a question for you guys: have you been sending your updates/letters to [email protected]? I've sent letters of intent + extra LORs and they STILL have not been marked as received... some of these materials were sent over 3 weeks ago so I'm beginning to worry. I've even tried faxing materials but I'm still getting the cold shoulder.
 
On the status page it says to e-mail documents to [email protected]. But there is also the general address too. Most of my documents sent showed up on the status page, but one recent letter still has not. For the last one, however, I copied Gaye and she confirmed receipt. If you haven't received an e-mail, I would definitely call and speak with an officer.

That is the address I used to send updates/letters. When I called to check if a LOR had been received via surface mail, they told me to give it 1.5 weeks before getting worried. Since you sent yours in over 3 weeks ago and via email, I would definitely call the admissions office to check if they have been received.

Edit: By the way, I only got a email confirmation of receipt for my first letter. I knew my other letter was received by checking the status page only.
 
just call the office. Since you emailed the stuff, I'm not sure what the problem is, but I do know that their office doesn't seem to be too thrilled about US mail. It takes a few days from when it arrives for them to even realize it's there, whereas the couriers (FedEx and UPS) deliver directly to the office.
 
thanks guys for the helpful tips. I called today (I had called before and they were unclear about some of my materials) and they were received. Unfortunately I also asked about the waitlist movement and they said they're wrapping things up. Congrats to those who got in!

Thank you SoggyPajamas for the information - but when you say "wrapping things up" - do they mean that they are completely done or they still have a few spots to offer? They are always so vague whenever I try to clarify anything.
 
I've got bad news for those of us still on the waitlist. Gaye replied to my email and mentioned that the class has been filled and from now on the openings will be sporadic, if any. I am sorry for the bad news 🙁

It's bad news, but I guess it's closure in a way, which is good. I meant to finally call today but fell asleep (currently jet lagged like crazy). I'm not sure how much calling actually helps though. I get the feeling these things might help when you're borderline, but really, they're just going to admit who they want to admit, so long as they've shown a tiny bit of interest.

... I'm probably still going to call tomorrow anyway though. :laugh:
 
I know a few people that just withdrew from the class this weekend, so there should be a few more spots opening up. :luck::luck:

i bought a washU sweatshirt and my parents got a car sticker thingy, so i guess that makes it official.

Updating for the sake of next year's batch of people on the waitlist.

Got an email/status page rejection yesterday afternoon (so July 1st). Email was titled "Penn Med Final Decision" and said:


The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine class entering in August 2009 has been filled. Please check your status page for official notification. We wish you well in your career goals to become a physician.

The Staff of the
Office of Admissions
And Financial Aid


Which was good timing because I put down a deposit for an apartment in St Louis the day before. 😀 In a way, I'm relieved. I still love UPenn, but I'm happy where I'm ending up, and I'm glad there's no more loose ends in my mind.
