Ok, so I'm stoked to have gotten an interview at Pritzker after having been on hold forever. They just emailed me a few Februrary dates to choose from. My question now is, having already been accepted to an out-of-state school that I really like (MSSM) and my in-state schools, is it worth it to interview at Pritzker this late in the game? I'm also waiting on a whole slew of non-rolling schools that will be releasing their decisions shortly. If I'm just going there to interview for a wait list spot, I'd rather save the 300+ bucks to fly out to Chi-town.

What do you guys say? Can Feb interviewees be outright accepted to Pritzker? How do y'all view MSSM vs. Pritzker vs. any other school?

When did you get put on hold?

Pritzker starts reviewing apps pretty early. If you're put on hold for a second review, they'lll notify you about it. This probably only applies to people who didn't take the August MCAT.

Anyways, I think Pritzker's relatively traditional curriculum is good for certain people (I mean, some people prefer more lecture times). Both Pritzker and Mount Sinai have good reputation, but Sinai definitely have better reputation in areas such as geriatrics and Public Health.

Pritzker, on the other hand, has better reputation for cutting edge research, and for combined degrees such as MD/MBA (Its business school is one of the best in the nation).

U of Chicago hospital has a large African American patient population, and I believe Mount Sinai's affiliated hospitals also have a diverse population. Locationwise, Mount Sinai probably has an edge b/c it's in a pretty good part of Manhattan. U of Chicago, however, is in Hyde Park, which is about 30-60 minutes drive from the wonderful Downtown area.

Hey bokermmk, I was put on hold back in late August. Just got taken off hold today.

Thanks for the input calbee.

Anybody else?

Yeah, I was complete at the beginning of August, and got put on hold the very next week. Didn't hear from them for MONTHS, and have since then gotten accepted at other schools. And I got an email interview invite today.

I'm in the same boat...I have already mentally "checked out" of Pritkzer...still debating if it's worth my time to interview. I have already starting planning to attend another school.

I'll probably call Pritzker and say "thanks but no thanks".

Yeah chuck, I'm leaning the same way myself. Chicago is quite a journey from me. I've already declined an NU interview, but I really like a few of the programs that Pritzker has to offer. Hmmm, if i can get my hands on a steal of a plane ticket, I'll probably go though. I'm going to think this over a bit more...

BUMP for any more Pritzker opinions before I spill the loot for a plane ticket. 250 bucks! :wow:

Pritzker gives away a lot of acceptances until mid February, then they put people on the waitlist that is not ranked...so you got to keep in touch to get in...I went through the same Pritzker vs. Sinai deal last year.

It is so hard b/c Pritzker is such a good school, but Sinai has such a good location...in the end I am happier with Pritzker b/c it has a stronger clinical program too and their hospitals are one of the best.

Good luck w/ the interview, some 1st years are getting to do some now. 🙂

So are February interviewees going for waitlist spots?

loved pritzker when i visited. just be yourself and you'll be fine. get ready for open-ended questions, where you see yourself in 10 years, why you took time off if you did, etc... pretty standard questions. they just wnat to get a feel for who you are. great place. nice administration, happy students. they even took a group pic of the applicants and gave a copy to us! good luck!!

I'd like to know the answer to this. Lab-rat, is this what you implied? Any other current Pritzkerites that know if all Feb interviewees go straight to the waitlist?

Oh yeah the group pic! That was a nice touch. I am waitlisted at Pritzker, but I enjoyed my interview experience alot-- Sylvia Robertson and the rest of the Pritzker people really make you feel comfortable.

Good luck tf!

Thanks Lux. 🙂

*UPDATE* for bokermmk and everyone else that was wondering about Feb interviews at Pritzker: I talked to the admissions office at Pritzker (yes, I broke down and called 😳 ) and they notified me that Feb interviewees have just as good a chance of being accepted outright as all those who interviewed before Feb. So, I'm going to be taking the interview after all. The super-nice secretary also said that they don't reject anyone post-interview either. Sweet!

I'm definitely biased because I love Pritzker, and I can't imagine being anywhere else, but you should not pass up the opportunity to come see our amazing school. I got in off the waitlist, as did a lot of other people currently here. I also interviewed in late January, so I had some of the same concerns, but you would have just as much of a chance interviewing in February as you would earlier in the year. Feel free to IM me if you have any other questions about the U of C because I'd be more than happy to answer them. Also, to the person who said we are 30-60 minutes away from downtown, that is completely false. You are thinking of Finch, which is indeed about that far away from the Loop. We are a 10 minute drive from downtown, plus there are multiple options the get to downtown via public transportation (The Metra train is a 10-15 minute commute, and the L will get you there just as quickly, although the Red Line stop is a short bus ride from campus).

Explosivo's been pretty helpful in answering pretty much all my queries about Pritzker, but thanks for the offer and additional info. 🙂

I was looking at the match list for Pritzker yesterday, and it's incredible! Seems like Pritzker rocks the match just about every year. 👍
