Ok, I've decided that I really like polls. I like voting in them; I like posting them. You got a problem with it? Good! 😀 Vote anyway! 😛

EDIT: Oh yeah, and if you choose the "Something not mentioned here" option, you are officially OBLIGATED to specify what it was by posting here.

I like polls....Keep them up! :horns:

I shadowed a dentist one day and just knew it was right.

I shadowed that dentist because some job shadowing was required for a school project and I happened to be dating the daughter of a dentist at that time. My alterior motive was that I wanted to spend some time with her dad so he could learn that I was not so bad of a guy.

I told that story in my interviews and got laughs both times.

It surprises me that I'm the only one here so far who entered college with aspirations toward medicine. I wanted to be a physician 168 hours a week till I met my fiancée, and that's when the lifestyle aspects of dentistry began tugging at my soul.

Well, 10 people have now voted "wanted to be an MD first". Why don't we just continue to fuel the ego's of those pretentious pre-meds?

By the way, I ran into one yesterday that really pi**ed me off, so I'm still a little heated...sorry.

Just for the record, I really really respect people who want to go into medicine for the right reasons...some of my good friends are physicians. But when these kids who haven't even taken the MCATs yet go talking about how much money they think they are going to make and yapping loudly about MD after their name....I just get really peeved.

follow your hearts friends! Not the dollar signs!

OK this is a different thread and I digress...😛

I don't think ppl voting for "wanting to be MD first" is an insult. I just think a lot of ppl start off college as pre-meds b/c they don't know what else is out there. After seeing all that dentistry has to offer, especially the lifestyle of a DDS compared to an MD, its only natural to want to change your mind. A lot of ppl go this route by CHOICE, not because they couldn't hack it as a premed

Woohoo,

I suppose you are absolutely right....

I was a returning student to college and I knew at the time of my first semester of undergrad that I wanted to be a dentist.

I suppose traditional students, who know they are interested in the health care profession, and would like to receive maximum education in that area would probably start off pre-med.

Good point.

But you have to admit that there are going to be those certain arrogant pre-meds out there that will see those statistics (the poll..which is now up to 14 "MD firsts") and say to themselves "HA!, those pre-dents just could get into to med school!" or "they couldn't hack the MCAT".

Quite true, Aaronpsr, but I've found that arrogant people tend to stay that way regardless of what's around them. Sad. 🙄
When I posted the poll, perhaps I should've thought of that, but honestly, I didn't anticipate that answer choice would take such a strong lead.

If the pre-medz want to make fun of us, I say let 'em! We'll be laughing at them when it comes time for their residencies, while we're out there in practice already, doing what we love to do, and on our own schedule. Honi soit qui mal y pense! (Let him be ashamed who thinks ill of it!)

Now that I've become obsessed with polls (good ol' Freud would have a thing or two to say about that one), I was thinking of posting a new poll every week, say on Wednesdays, to brighten up the middle of the week as well as invite flaming, instigate riots, and the like. Just a thought. So watch out for next Wednesday! 🙂 That is, um, unless I forget...

Bump! Now that there are a bunch of votes, in case you haven't looked lately, here's what the stats look like. Interesting...
