what do u guys with you did as a freshmen now that u look back at it? I just started my freshmen year so any advice would be great..thanks

I'm a sophomore, currently. But when i was in highschool I was duel enrolled for 3 semesters before becoming a freshman and I had plenty of time to join the wind symphony at my school, but I didn't. I'll try to soon though. Get into some extra curricular activities you like. What are you interested in?

I wished that I challenged myself more. Sophomore year I realized that I could easily handle overloading my semester with an extra course. If I knew that from the start, I would have had a chance to take more classes in various other departments and take more advantage of my liberal arts college. As it was, I really had to try hard to get out of the science center and enjoy classes in other departments by the time I was bogged down with major/pre-med requirements.

👍 I should have taken more classes when I was duel enrolled. I could have knocked out almost all my core stuff.

You're pre-med - that means you're automatically a nerd.

Seriously consider Greek life. Most pre-meds blow this off and look down on Greek students. There are TONS of advantages to being in a fraternity and just because you join one does not mean you're going to party 24/7 and bomb all your classes, people that say this have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Some advantages of being in a fraternity:

- Leadership positions
- Extensive alumni connection (can help with anything and everything)
- Study material from other members (test banks in some chapters / free tutoring)
- LOTS of opportunity to meet girls if you aren't very outgoing
- intramural sport teams
- mixers with sororities / BBQs / cookouts / etc...
- It keeps you sane

It's nice to be a part of something bigger than yourself in college.

Sorry if you're a girl.

Definitely this. If you're genuinely worried you won't be able to handle it, you can always rush as a sophomore or spring rush if chapters at your school even do that.

You will regret not doing it first semester though.

yeah im gonna rush and ill prly join a fraternity..

im a social person but i just feel like its pretty hard to meet a variety girls outside of greek life at college..

any other recommendations?

OP, I wish I had purchased a bookstand for freshmen year; this, in fact, is the best 60$ I've spent since sophomore year along with a monitor mount and an ergonomic chair; well, that's of course if your have extra money to spare. I am indeed an ergonomics fanatic as it has allowed me to confortably and stress-freely study and learn for hours on end.😍

+1

Seriously: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=1027410

Times a changin' yawlz.😛

I tried Greek Life for a semester and I hated it. Pretentious, little...

However, I wish I transferred oos. I had a good opportunity that was offered to me as a frosh.

You were probably minding you're own business finishing up your remaining sets, right?

Don't worry, your time will shine.😉

I don't really get this post. But yeah maybe the problem is greeklife sucks at your school La Presse

-Use my summers more wisely. Do some kind of research program, volunteering program, etc every summer.

-Start a local project on my own and see it to completion (ie starting an annual 5k to raise money for a cause).

-Went to the gym more often.

-Develop a new skill and continue to master it (ie playing the piano).

-Stop by professors I enjoyed talking to and chitchat more often. Make a better connection with my mentor.

I wish I'd get involved with research in my freshmen year, now most teachers prefer to take a freshy to their labs instead of me, a Junior 🙁

I've never seen a gym in my life. Still look like Adonis. :naughty:

To busy scribbling mannies. 😉

I know. 🙁 And they way they treat you isn't so friendly either. I spent quite some time hanging out at the house, partying for around 2 weeks, attending events, connecting with alumni....yeah.

Quit freaking out about medical school. Do the prereqs, jump through the hoops but stress less and enjoy life and have a hobby. I also highly recommend going and getting some whilst consuming moderate amounts of alcohol.

med schools want well rounded people. They are recruiting future colleagues (someone they would like to actually work with).

getting some what??? can you be more specific 😕😕😕

Not getting B's in silly classes. Make sure you get A's in everything you can because GPA is the hardest thing to fix. You can get good EC's (or atleast good enough) in no time, but you can spend years trying to fix a GPA.

But also realize that the material is not that difficult, and really not THAT time consuming. Just approach it consistently and diligently and you'll be fine, won't have to pull all nighters, etc. Its funny how you felt stressed back then, but now after working full time and doing school, you realize how much better you can be at managing time.

I was pretty shy when I first started, and didn't make very many friends right away. I thought that I would have plenty of time later... Except I didn't, haha. I'll be a junior next week, and almost everyone is still friends with the people they met in the first few days of school. I only have acquaintances at this point. It's a major bummer. So if I could do it over, I'd work harder to put myself out there right away, because it's very hard to break into established groups.

I also sort of wish that I wanted to party and drink, but I just don't. At my LAC, which has a surprisingly HUGE party and alcohol focus, it's difficult to meet people who don't like getting wasted and raging all night every night. I wish I had realized that immediately and transferred.

Que sera sera! I have gotten good grades, got involved in many ECs which I love, made good connections with my professors, and have maintained my romantic relationship with my high school boyfriend for almost 3 years 🙂 There are some perks to being a wallflower!

2 chicks at the same time

jk...just felt like quoting Office Space

In all seriousness, I would've went to class more, cared more about my grades, and become more involved with clubs. I didn't really join any clubs til sophomore year, and my only friends freshman year were people on my floor (most of whom I lost contact with by the time I graduated). I probably also would've stayed in my clinical volunteering program instead of just quitting mid-year like I did because "I didn't feel like doing it".

But the biggest thing would definitely have been to take academics more seriously. All those college movies got to my head and I had too much fun as I tried to live up to those movies -_- For a while I totally forgot the reason I was actually at college

Go to the gym more. Seriously healthy mind = healthy body. Seriously, my grades went through the roof when I started to belief that I trusted I could take a little bit out of the day and go workout.

Get involved in student orgs more

When studying, study early and not cramming

+1...this for the most part although I did have a small group of close classmates by my junior year.

Freshman year should be about making friends, meeting members of the opposite sex and otherwise exploring a world in which you don't have to check in with your parents on an hourly basis. The one thing you CANNOT do is let your grades slip. There might be a little bit of an adjustment at first but it is of utmost importance you come out of the year with a GPA in the mid to high threes. It is a lot harder to bring it back up than to just keep it there!

Survivor DO

my freshmen year was so awesome it was bad...

i would trade each girl i was with for an extra .1 gpa boast...

unfortunately that would only bring me up to a 2.9

This, especially for music activities. I think I would have been able to manage a music extracurricular more effectively as a freshman.

Also, it would have been nice to form good sleeping habits earlier--I never really knew how important sleep was until I realized that I couldn't focus with less of it.
