I just got a letter in the mail that I have been accepted to the program 🙂

Does anyone have any experience with the program, if so please share. Also, what would be a good place to look for housing...I heard NO is quite expensive.

congrats on being accepted......when did you send in your application and how long after that did you find out you were accepted?....i just sent in my application, so I'm just wondering......i'm applying to other places as well, but i would really like to do this program

It took about three weeks to get the answer. When did you send in your application?

Hi
Can you post a link to the website that talks about the program? DO you know anyone whose gotten into Tulane SOM after doing this program?

I sent my application overnight on Friday.....I've been waiting on a letter of recommendation for a month 🙄 ..soooo...we'll see how that goes...

http://cell.tulane.edu/graduate.htm ...click on One-Year Masters

Iton00...I e-mailed the graduate director of the program about a month ago and asked him how many students who complete the program go on to professional/graduate school...

and he replied "We try to keep track of our graduates but we are not successful in every case. A conservative placement number is 70%. Not all of our students are interested in medical school, we have had students that go on to graduate school, law school and business school, and some students take jobs."

Hey,

I dont know anyone from the program. They do have a rotation "class" in which you work in the hospital throughout your year there. Bottom line is that its up to you to do well and incresae your chances for acceptance. I am sure that Tulane Med will at least look at your app little bit harder if you do good in the program and get good LORs after all Im sure that they know each other. Well if anyone else get accepted let me know, I think the big issue is getting a good housing arrangment close to the campus and cheap..which will be a problem I'm sure.

also the tuition is discounted..sweet 🙂 ...if anyone else gets accepted let me know

i don't know about this program's ability to get students into tulane med. tulane med has its own postbac program (ACP) that's highly successful in getting students into the next year's class. but i do have friends who did the one-year cell program, and they enjoyed it, but the ones curiously did not apply to med school. take that for what it's worth.

new orleans isn't that expensive at all. two bits of advice:
1) find a roommate
2) see the place before you make any decisions. new orleans is notorious for having streets that are simultaneously posh and ghetto. you can never tell just by an address.

Any good websites that could help me find a place...other than craigs.

ACP is a bit more direct in terms of getting into Tulane Med specifically...but I know people from Cell and Molec that have done it.
Whats this about New Orleans being expensive? No way..its really really cheap...especially compared to SF, NYC, Boston, DC, etc.

Craigs list is great to check...also check out The Gambit online.

I got my acceptance letter today....YAAAAAAAAYYYYYY...now I have to figure out how I'm going to pay for it.....I guess I'll have to take out a loan :scared:

Congrats 😀 .....now...housing arrangments!! what are your plans, u can pm me if u wish.

Being that I'm not from New Orleans or Lousiana period....it would probably be best if I stayed on campus...

I called Housing today and they have two dorms primarily for graduates students....Anron, which seems to be the nicer dorm, is full already (plus she said that they only take a limited amount of grad students 🙄 go figure)...Now, they are in the process of assigning rooms in Rosen...the lady said she would send me a housing packet/application in the mail today....so we'll see how that goes

I dont think that the program is geared for premed students....I am sure that it will work fine if you do it.

I was wondering if anyone who's accepted in the program has received any orientation/registration material...

Anyone still waiting for acceptance into this master program? HAs this program helped anyone get into Tulane Med?

Hello,

I am not in med school, but here at Baylor College of Dentistry. I was a student at Tulane, and some of my classmates contested that another way into the med school was through the school of public health. I am not sure about this, and wish I had more substantial info, but I was pre dent so didn't pay full attention to med school info. I would call the school of public health and ask for info to be mailed or go online. It has been a few years since I was there, but you could call Tulane's University's Tulane College and talk to a Mr. Robert Carrier. I think this is still his email [email protected] Be advised he can be obtuse, but once you get through the barb wire, he is a great source of info.
Take care and God Bless.

The deadline for the program was July 15...so there aren't anymore acceptances goiing out...A poster that attends Tulane said that the graduate director of the program said that the top student will be offered a spot in Tulane's med school...I don't know how true that is though.... 😕

This program isn't as direct of a path to Tulane as the ACP or Pharm program, but I know people who have done it and ended up at Tulane Med. As its completed at the Uptown campus (ACP and Pharm are done downtown), the students don't have as much exposure to the med school/med students.

Dr. Grisbaum (spelling?) works with the cell students and he's super super nice and cool so he might be the best contact.

Isn't Tulane ACP for students who didn't get into any medical school and was put under the waitlist in any medical school? If so, then that bites for students who are interested in taking this program to strengthen their BCPM GPA average.

This is a question to those who are on Tulane's Uptown campus...

Do any of you know how far Rosen is from Percival Stern Hall?...

I asked the residential manager in Rosen, she pulled out a map of the school and counted 11 blocks :scared: ...she told me I would probably want to get a bike to get to class...and I just wanted to know from other students how long it would take to walk/bike to class..

Do most of the students ride bikes?...How is the traffic?..Do bikes get stolen often?...Do alot of people use electric scooters?....What's the deal?

Congrats to those who've been accepted! I plan on applying to Tulane's program for the 2005 cycle. Can anyone tell me what a competitive GRE score might be? I'm taking the April 2005 MCAT, but I'd like to apply earlier with my GRE scores (V540, Q700). I think I can raise that verbal score but would rather save the time and money if I don't have to. Any insight will be much appreciated 🙂

They take either one (I guess you can send in both if you want)...I was told by the graduate director that most of the applicants submit MCAT scores (average score = 25)...I submitted GRE scores only (cause that's all I had)...my scores were waaayyy lower than yours and I was accepted...SO IF I WERE YOU...I WOULDN'T TAKE IT AGAIN... 🙂

I am interested in this program to get into dental school. How hard is it to get into this program? What does your GPA and other scores have to be? Also, is it possible for me to submit a DAT score or do I have to submit a GRE score?

I couldnt tell you how hard it is to get in to the program but my advice would be to work on your app very hard. I think I have put solid 15-20 hours of work on my app. So, if you really want to get in that is the first step you have to take. As for the second question, I dont think I can help you with that, and I am sure you wont find that answer on this forum. Your best bet is to contact the dept. directly, they are very helpful and I am sure if you send them an email with few questions that you have they would be more than happy to answer you. Hope this helps.

Is their anybody over at Tulane University whom I can contact about their post-bacc. programs?? From what I have read on the above threads, there are 2 diff. programs at Tulane; one through the department of cellular biology, and one known as the ACP program? I know that the cell program is a one year, but what about the ACP??Is the tuition for the ACP the same as the other(about $7500)? Which program is better for somebody whose GPA is not competitive enough for Med school?? Please let me know this, but more importantly I NEED the contact information of somebody at Tulane who can give me more insight on both of these programs.
Thankyou

Would you have anymore information that is a little more specific. Whre should I look on the website for example(which college should I click on etc.) but preferably a name, if not their contact information, than atleast a name of somebody who i can contact at Tulane.
THanks
