Hello guys! I am currently researching on the financial aspect of dentistry eduction. I hope current dental or pre-dental students can help me out by trying to answer the questions below...

What school are you attending or plan to attend?

Location of your school (City/state)?

Are you an international, Canadian, or US student?

Eastimated "tuition only" for you 4 year education?

Are you renting a place? If so, how do much are you going to spend?

Overall cost of your 4 year dental education including tuition, living expense, equipment, textbook, leisure expense, etc....?

And finally, how much debt will you have to pay back after graduating from dental school? 🙂

Thank you!!!

I am attending UNLV this fall. (Las Vegas) I am a US student. Tuition only is about 120K. I am living in Vegas currently with my husband and we own a home here. I am taking the max of loans out because I will be investing the money while I am in school with the intrest as low as it is! Hope this helps.

Excellent thread smooth...it will really help predents out there like yourself, cause money is an extremely important issue when talking about dental education.....Here are my answers:

What school are you attending or plan to attend?

Temple University

Location of your school (City/state)?

Philadelphia, PA

Are you an international, Canadian, or US student?

Canadian, but I have a resident alien card

Eastimated "tuition only" for you 4 year education?

Since im instate, ONLY tuition is gonna run me $105K for 4 years

Are you renting a place? If so, how do you plan to spend?

No, I purchased a condo very close to the school in the beautiful suburb of Roxbourough

Overall cost of your 4 year dental education including tuition, living expense, equipment, textbook, leisure expense, etc....?

Ive estimated that if I live comfortably, I will spend 150-160K in total

And finally, how much debt will you have to pay back after graduating from dental school?

Like predentchick, I am taking the max amount of loans if the interest rates stay this low....but only government loans cause it more than covers it....no private loans for me

This is it, If I have to spend a crude load of money for dental school, then I have to spend a crude load of money. I realize now that saving money and not getting into dental school of your choice (ie instate dental school) is a waste of time in the long run. Won't matter if you spent 200 thousand versus 100 thousand.

In the END you'll wake up as a dentist and you'll know it was worth the money you spent.

1) I'm a second-year at Indiana University School of Dentistry.

2) US.

3) My tuition will cost approximately $100,000 for four years.

4) Total cost of living for the four years will probably be in the neighborhood of $160,000.

5) Between my fiancee/wife-to-be's salary and my military loan repayment benefits, I'm hoping to graduate with a debt of $50,000 or so.

Hope this helps!

Added: I currently rent for about $450/month, but after Rachel and I marry we'll be looking for a new apartment in the $700-$800 range.

1) I'm a first-year at University of Minnestoa School of Dentistry.

2) US.

3) My tuition will cost approximately $95,000 for four years (figure about $145,000 if you are a non-resident).

4) My wife and I bought a house. Pay around $900 a month for the mortgage.

5) Total cost for the four years will probably be in the neighborhood of $180,000.

6) I plan on taking out all the money needed in loans. So at least $180,000 in debt once I get my DDS.

I worked it so i get instate tuition, so it'll be about 75-80k for tuition and fees

Got a roommate at an apartment, 950 for the two of us, so not too bad ...

hmmm, Probably 125k for living expenses and everything

I think i'll have 100-105 in debt when i'm done ...

75-80K?????

Urrrrghhh... Damn you cheap in state people. Damn you...

Wait until you hear from people who go to some Texas schools. I heard that their tuition is less than 50K for four years.

Yes, I just got my tuition and fee statement for my first year, and it came to a grand total of $11,1?? for the entire first year. (not including the 1st year kit). So realistically, for tuition and fees, I am looking at $50-55k. It was funny, but as I was reading the $75-80K, I was thinking 'damn, that is expensive for 4 years of dental school' (I guess it is all relative).

Thanks for all the feedbacks, keep them coming! 👍 It will be nice if students studying in US without US resident status can fill in. 😛

I'm not sure just yet.. I'm starting a post bacc here in a few weeks. However, I listed my motorcycle for sale today to help pay for it all. 🙁
