Hello! Where can I find the statistic on the number of foregin students that American schools accept each year? It would be nice if someone can refer me the link. Thanks! 😛

Hopefully not too many. We have plenty of qualified Americans to fill the spots. I don't mean to sound rude but I strongly believe that Americans should get priority over foreign students. Just as I believe that German students should have priority over foreign students applying to German schools, etc.

flash the greens and WALLA you are as competitive as everyone else as long as your scores are good.

HMS admitted 2 that I know of during 2003-2004.

It helps if

1) You went to a good university in the U.S. (The two people I know both went to Yale),

2) You have EC/Research experience in the U.S.,

3) You're applying for MD/PhD (some schools have private funds for internationals in this category),

4) Your family is loaded and you're very, very qualified.

From what I've heard (could just be false) the number of foreign matriculants is actually a fairly decent number...I wouldn't even want to say what the ratio of foreign/american matriculants is that I've heard because it sickens me - so I hope its wrong.

I know a person who is under 18 and receive green card statue automatically when her parents receive their's. So, when she applies, is she considered as a US resident even though she has never lived in US for more than a yr?

Actually best way is to email each school and ask them and sure they will reply. Actually I am an international student and I am applying for Fall 2005. I emailed most of the schools and obtained statistics. But yeah very few schools accept international students, specially private schools. But some schools have high number of acceptance for international students. That includes Tufts, Vanderbilt, Columbia, BU, Tulane....

Well if you need more schools then email me at [email protected]. I will try to pull information from emails and will send you.

Good Luck!

Vanderbilt accepted at least 5 this year.

Who exactly count as foreign students? Do Canadians count as foreign students also? I got a friend of mine, whose brother is in Canada and he's trying to apply to US med schools... is he considered foreign too?

The data is available from the AAMC here. In 2003, 559 foreign applicants applied and 82 were accepted and this does include Canadians.

Foreigners that are residents of the U.S. are counted in that chart according to their state of residency.

hey mpp thanks for the input, but it appears the link you provided leads to his thread instead of the AAMC stats. 😛
