A 42 MCAT rejected from Hopkins???

Wow, an applicant from Dartmouth College with 42 MCAT, 3.91 GPA, applied 2004, got interviewed and rejected?

also rejected from Harvard, and Stanford, and waitlisted then rejected from Columbia University, Cornell University, [Johns Hopkins University,] Northwestern University and University of Pennsylvania

I'm not too surprised, all those schools he got rejected from have their pick of the best applicants in the country. Now, if he didn't get into ANY medical school, then I'd be afraid 😀

I'm going to say this one more time and then you will have to remember it for yourselves; admission to medical school is NOT ALL ABOUT STATS. Your statistics get you the interview, but if you're a boring, socially inept, dork you probably will not get accepted.
Let's also remember that not every top school can accept every top applicant; therefore some really good applicants get rejected.

I know, I know, but it's really scary!! It has to start at stats and when I checked out numerous schools on MDapplicants.com there was not an average MCAT below 30 that was interviewed and accepted.

I thought i could get into some, but not top schools, now I'm having my doubts. :scared:

You are probably right. Wash U is known for accepting students with no personality (and gunners) that have really high MCATs. People like to call them a "numbers *****." :laugh:

I know you probably won't believe me, but the people I've met at Wash U are some of the coolest, nicest, funniest people I have ever met. Don't believe everything you hear. By the way, having a high MCAT score and a personality are not mutually exclusive.

This thread is ridiculous. Yeah, he didn't get into those places...but lets be honest, he applied to basically the top 10, plus Umich, which is incredibly good as well. So getting into 2 out of the top 10 or so is pretty damn good. Thats why most people apply to many of the top schools, so they can hopefully get into one. Look through MD apps...I will pretty much guarantee that you cannot find someone who got accepted to all those schools (or a similar list) regardless of their stats. Its nearly impossible.

Yeah, he looks good with stats, but his ECs are mediocre, and you know nothing about his personality, PS, or LOR.

For christ's sake stop being so neurotic about every goddamn thing you see on SDN or MDapps.

This guy obviously has a personality issue that wasn't apparent until the interview. This should be GOOD news for most people here, because it means that if you have something beyond numbers, you CAN get into those schools even if you didn't get a 42. Furthermore, if you do get into one such school, you know your classmates weren't selected solely by numbers. Quit freaking out.

But seriously, if someone had those killer numbers and got interviews at all those top schools, there must be SOME good reason most of them ended up rejecting him eh? Probably not the white male thing either, I would hope...

well you're making a leap in logic. GPA and MCAT scores are high at Wash U...but a high GPA is not too hard to get in today's world of grade inflation, and the MCAT is just a standardized test--its really not as hard as people lead you to believe. Point is, high GPA/MCAT don't indicate 'robot' or 'gunner'...just 'person with high stats.'

If you knew the students at Wash U you'd understand how funny your post is.
