I don't know if this is still true but when I was an MS4 in a UC medical school, one of the things my class did before we graduated was have a brief presentation on malpractice insurances.

Contrary to popular belief, malpractice insurance for anesthesiologists was ~ $14K/yr - same as internists - although I'm sure this will depend on the region you practice and how many times you get sued and lose and so forth.

btw - i'm a US grad with low USMLE scores who didn't match into gas - i'm still trying but it just isn't working out - any suggestions - i cringe at the thought of doing IM or FP - never mind the money - i love anesthesia

it depends on your credentialed privileges at a hospital, how many hospitals, previous litigation, etc... It ranges from a low of 15k to highs of 85k in some states/areas. It gets higher when you do more procedures (of course) - and therefore some anesthesia pain docs can pay close to 120-130k, and quite a few cardiac/pedi anesthesia folks pay on the higher range of the 15-85 scale..

17K/year per partner for my group in Dallas, which includes full cardiac services at multiple hospitals.
