The Otolaryngology Match 2005

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can find match info for 2005 at www.otomatch.com. Great site for those interested in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

Since I've been around for quite a few years, I'm pretty well aware that there's a site called otomatch.

My purpose was to generate discussion here. Otherwise, why post on SDN at all?

Seen your posts on otomatch and SDN before. Also noted the "insufferable ENT resident," so I figured you knew about otomatch. My post was for those interested in the field who do not know about otomatch. It is a great resource, especially since there is sparse info on SDN at best about the specialty. Sorry to offend...

I will be interested in seeing what the match statistics are this year compared to last year. It seem more competitive but who knows.

I agree Bobby. It scares me more this year.

On otomatch.com, people were not posting the 2005 stats yet, because they are not available until they are mailed. I think someone will post the stats for us at the end of this week or beginning of the next. Do I have that right neutropenia?

I honestly can't remember when I was sent that letter with match statistics. I want to say it was within a week or two after the match.

I'm anxious to see the stats as well; it did seem very competitive this year.

Bobby, you rock. how did you get the stats so quickly?

It seems like the numbers are the same as 2004.

So I'm a little slow, but would anyone care to run down just exactly what those numbers mean?

I.e. did 465 students apply for ENT? I'm not familiar with CAS...

Then only 350 of the students actually submitted a rank list? Meaning that roughly 100 students didn't get interviews??

Anyway as you can tell I'm an MS-3 and just sort of feeling the process out to get an idea of what all the numbers mean. Thanks for the help.

bobby6, where did you match for ENT?

It means that 465 people sent in a registration fee and applied for the otolaryngology match.

The 115 who didn't submit a rank list were those that withdrew from the match at any time during the process prior to submitting a rank list or didn't get any interviews.

Gotcha... So I wasn't as clueless as I thought. Thanks.

Another question is what does 'Avg offers' mean?

Does it mean the number or rank lists a person is on perhaps?

no, i did not match at uc irvine. why do you ask?

avg offers is probably the # of programs that actually put you on their final rank list.
