Any tips for housing in and around Fullerton? How much is the rent there? And how about the quality of the apartments and safety issues? Actually any info about housing would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hey I recently went on a tour of SCCO and they said the rent in Fullerton is around $400/month per person. That's actually not bad at all compared to some other cities. I believe SCCO owns an apartment complex right across the street from the campus. I'm not sure how much those go for though. Good luck!

I didnt apply to SCCO or got into SCCO, but I live really close to SCCO LOL. I live in Pomona. WEll, Housing has been very expensive in LA, and I think you better check out the 400 one before u made any contract. You will see how terrible that house will be. What you can do is actually come here and check out all the apartments. I believe you might have to share bathroom and kitchen with someone else or may be with two more persons. You will not get the private room with private restroom with that price. It might cost above 600 if u are considering that.
I hope that helps

Hi,

I think Rosanna put up some info regarding housing at SCCO somewhere. I think there is a $400 apt. complex pretty near the school but it fills up really really fast, but you should definitely find her post. I wonder if housing in general is more expensive near SCCO or Berkeley?

I'm pretty sure Berkeley is more expensive...look for Rosanna's post. And I have been to Berkeley myself and seen the apartments there...I don't know how I can live there - the cost of living is terrible (including gas!!!), the quality of the housing is just sad, and parking is a PAIN!

although i do not live near scco (i'm a commuter), i know around fullerton (within 2 miles) a studio can cost you anywhere from 790 and above. one bedroom/1 bath start around 900; and, usually, two bedrooms with one/two bathrooms cost around 1100 and up. the apartments i've seen are decent.

the area around scco is quite nice- very suburban, mostly caucasian. you find lots of things nearby. also, scco is right across a california state university. that cal state school is actually a commuter school, where most of the students commute there so not sure if lots of cal state folk live around there. however, the area around scco isnt' your typical college town, like westwood, where you see college kids walking around all the time. it's orange county so you pretty much have to drive everywhere. there's a lot of houses nearby, like i said, very suburban.

i don't know about the safety, but as i said, you dont' see many people walking around all the time. but i haven't heard of any major crimes around the area except your typical broken into cars near some apartment complexes.

another thing, scco will send you a summer packet that will give a list of students looking for roomates. i believe they send you a card that asks you if you would like to put your name on a list to request a roomate. scco does own apartments/condos across the street and right next to school. i think you have to be put on the wait list for that. the rent policy has changed to year leases, instead of month-to-month. you get cable and some utilities paid. and i think condos/apartments range from 1200-1400? i dont' know exactly since current classmates rents range from 430 to 735ish (but that's per room, depending on size of the room).

i also have classmates that live 15-20 min away. their rent is about 600-750 per room. they live in fullerton (near the 91 freeway), anaheim, garden grove. i havne't heard of areas where's it really cheap. they are all about the same price i think. anways, hope that helps =).

when do you suggest we go looking for apartments? May? June?

Quick note: if you are thinking about living in the condos that SCCO own, I would recommend putting your name on the waiting list ASAP. The condos are generally given to upperclassman and rarely ever given to an entering student. I was #30 on the wait-list since December for a condo and my position didn't move at all up to July. My friend who went to SCCO actually found a 3rd year student moving out and took his place.

Compared to Irvine and Berkeley, the area of Fullerton isn't too bad with apartments. It is cheaper than Irvine but the apartments are not as nice. Berkeley is pretty bad so anything is generally better than here. JG777 was right about the general costs and you can find a studio starting around $800/month.

If you are sure about going to SCCO, it's better to start searching early since I was placed on a wait-list for two apartments complexes in Fullerton when I went searching around June.

I went and toured SCCO over spring break and I was very impressed with their school. They said that they have a list of apartments available to their students. They also said they keep it updated, so that if their students have a problem with management, etc. They will remove that apartment complex from the list. They also told me that it is about $400 a month with 2 other roommates. Hopes that helps.
