Should I prepare to reapply? Please, some advice on what to do next...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, here are my stats and my situation. Please let me know if I should be preparing to retake the MCAT and to reapply, and/or to find a postbaccalaureate program to increase my chances

MCAT 25 : Q, V7 P8 B10
GPA 3. 88
Experience: tons of biomedical research, volunteering in both hospital and community service, many honors clubs and extracurriculars
Background: Vietnamese, but grew up in Europe. California resident

Applied to: all California schools and some NY, Chicago, Boston private schools

Interviewed, waitlisted: UCLA, UCSD, SUNY Buffalo
Interviewed and still waiting to hear: Rosalind Franklin

The thing is that I applied very late (end Sept) and thus interviewed very late (March/April). I really do not know what I should do right now a) retake MCAT b) go to postbaccalaureate program c) sit and wait some more. Please, help - really appreciate it.

In a word... RETAKE

Wow, you got some nice interviews with that mcat. I bet if you got a 30, you'd be solid. Definitely don't do a postbacc, your GPA is not the problem here. I'd spend the summer eating, breathing, living the mcat and have everything sent in before october so when your mcat is scored, you'll get interviews soon after. Alternatively, you can wait a year and apply in 2006 so you can get a super early start on everything with that new mcat, but I don't know if you want to wait 2 years to start med school.

a better mcat score would certainly help, but youve got a good shot at those schools youre waiting on.

which ucla waitlist are you on? the unranked waitlist gives acceptances for 30-50% of waitlistees. i say you chill out and wait to hear from a waitlist. ucla and ucsd are awesome schools and you should wait to get a yes or no before reapplying.

if no go on the waitlists, get your mcat up and youll be in like flint. they say a 25 is certain death but you got interviews at top 20 schools. whatll happen if you get a 35 next time? let it ride, get a cool job or something if you dont get in and shoot for the august mcat or the april next year.
