If your MCAT is 33+, then you will have a very solid chance.
If your MCAT is >25, then it will be a little tough, or you can try DO schools. 🙂

Ha, same with dentistry, a low GPA can be made up for (kind of) with a great DAT score, (I figured).

Not exactly, lealf-ye's advice is more of an optimistic viewpoint. You really have to kick some MCAT ass, and even then the focal point of your interviews will be the low GPA. I guess it matters how much you can bring up your GPA.

I definitely think that lower gpa's (granted, above a 3.0) can be more than compensated for by great MCAT composites. Take some sample MCATs and see how you do, I think if you can get above a 29 you have a shot especially at D.O. schools where they evaluate applicants more holistically. As a side note, alot depends on your BCMP gpa- if that is lower than a 3.2 you may have a rougher time with adcoms.

oh, wow, thanks for your post, but don't misunderstand me, i think you did

i am set on wanting to do dentistry, but was just wondering how my chances would fair if i decided to go 'medicine' (which i won't 😀 )

personaly, i don't understand the big deal about medicince, dentistry is so much better!

most of the SDN'ers here probably have 3.4 GPA's and 32+ MCAT scores, these people are virtually gauranteed a spot in dental schools (I'm sure the DAT would just be a formality for these kinds of students).

i am just so confused as to why so many people apply for medicine, and disregard dentistry 😕

can anyone shed some light as to why this might be the case?

For me it's a matter of studying and doing something I'm interested in. I've never been interested in teeth, whereas I'm very interested in the neurosciences and the link between brain and behavior. That's why I never considered dentistry at any point in time.
