I'm being swamped with studying for the MCAT this coming Aug, and I still need to look for an APT at LECOM in PA since i'll be doing the post bacc this coming Fall. Please! If you go, or went, to LECOM, can you give me a break down list of the apt complexes nearest LECOM (within walking distance) with decent> good living condition. I'm looking for 1 Bedroom APT or condo or whatnot. And if I really need a car there to get around.

Keep in mind that I'll be flying over from CA. ANY input on living situations would help tremendously. Thanks SDN!

I just finished our search a week ago, I understand the stress.

I threw out all my apartment information, but there are three complex's right on West Grandview within walking distance from LECOM. Call LECOM and ask them what those are. There is one that is really new, looks real nice, and is literally 1block away, you could even walk it in a blizzardry snow storm. And I think they are fairly inexpensive also.

If I find the name, I will email you.

Also look on this page:

http://www.aptassoc.com/index.vnx

Also check "Go Erie" and there is a an apartment section there.

Also the city is set with West and East, and numbered streets. The lower the number the closer it is to the lake. West is where lecom is, and East is past Parade street, which is about 6-7 blocks east of LECOM. LECOM is right near West 38th street (one block over), and its on the West side of the city. Millcreek is tricky its a big town and it wraps around Erie, part of it is within blocks of Erie, but it can reach all they way around to the North East side.

The North East side of the city is bad, well bad for Erie, so stay clear.

Good luck. Email if you need any help, or feel free to call me

thanks for the info Jim. 🙂

Is it okay if i add you to MSN rather than emailing? I feel more efficient that way.

Anybody know if I'll need a car there? I have a car here in CA, but i dont think i should drive my 4cylinder honda 2000miles across. And it'll cost a bit to ship.

As of now, I'm imagining what my post bacc life would be - As I get out of class from 6-9pm for pb during the winter, I'd tread along the snowy streets, through the icy breeze while holding myself tightly with a steamy cup of hot cocoa (and that's IF there's a store on the way which i'm being optimistic about). Life just seems harsh in the future for me.

I mean... from CA ( sunny with a car ) to PA ( cold with no car)
eeeeeek i hope it's not as bad as it sounds :scared:

I think you will need a car. I just finished the post-bacc in April, and I will be starting as a MS-1 in a few weeks. While there are a few places nearby that are "technically" within walking distance, most of them are full by now, and they aren't actually a comfortable walk. They are like, "well, I could walk if I absolutely had to." I found a lot of places last year by checking goerie.com, and I love my place now...its on W. 38th, about two blocks from the school (still a 3 or 4 minute drive). If you would be in town before moving here, I would also suggest just driving around and calling numbers that you see on "for rent" signs.

Buy an ATV when you get here.

ATV as in playing TV on the computer? Ya i was thinking about that ...

The closest apartment complex to LECOM is called Laurel Ridge and they have 1 bedroom apartments. There may be a wait list though. I would definitely have a car. There isn't much public transportation in Erie and everything is pretty spread out. You should check out the LECOM 2009 class thread for more apartment info or PM me if you have more questions.

I would bring a car. You might get an apartment close to school, but you would want a car to go other places. Erie is not the most walker friendly place, especially in the snow, and the bus system is not great. I drove from Sacramento, Ca last summer. If you can have someone help with the drive, it is doable. Good luck!

Well, I can tell that you're definitely not from PA. ATV is an all-terrain-vehicle, a quad, a four-wheeler, some trikes.

HAHA. To the original poster: bring your car. Dreary Erie ain't Cali. Transportation sucks. And even if you live a block away, you might want to drive. It's...how do you Cali guys say it? Hella cold.

I've been living near Erie for the past six years. You'll be screwed if you dont bring your car. Drive the 2000 miles...it should be worth it...

I know a girl that has one bedroom for rent in a condo for around 300-350. It's by Gannon University not far from Lecom. PM me if you want more details.

Erie's not a big city, but I wouldn't describe Gannon as "not far" from LECOM. LECOM's almost in Millcreek. Gannon is downtown.

I am actually the girl with the room for rent. Granted my place is about a mile west of Gannon a couple minutes from I-79 and about a 10 minute drive to LECOM. To the one looking for a place...I just moved here from Vegas...I would definitely recommend bringing your car, you won't be able to get anywhere without it (to grocery stores, shopping, doctors, anything!). Good luck, its a long long drive!!!!
