For those who scored 19+ (AA) - How long did you study for the DAT?

it's not the size of the rocket that counts, it's how you use it that matters

in the same reasoning:

it's not how long you study, it's how effectively you study,

study your weak areas, highlight the strong areas, and you should do well.

plus, everyone has different studying styles and habits.

over the course of an entire spring semester. spent 2+ hours a day some days and no time other days. the weekend before was about 8+ hours a day and took off the night before.

but everyone is different. so good luck! 👍

The test is not hard. 3 months for about 4 hours a day is plenty of time. Just be sure to relax the day before. I watched japanese anime. Something light-hearted. Think Great Teacher Onizuka the anime, or Love Hina are good choices for anime to watch.

Good luck,
Rich

This is for sure.. gotta be effective with your studying.. otherwise, why bother?

The goal of this poll is just to get an approximate baseline of how much time people are putting in to get 19+AA

i completed 4 years of undergraduate classes and then 4 months of review. :scared: i still have nightmares from it.
Aww man, I hate undergrad.

Some people take longer because they work or go to school, or both. Others dedicate entirely to DAT and might spend less time studying.

For me, since I graduated already, it took me a month and a half (but I dedicated the entire time to the DAT).

I studied for about 3 months on and off, and 1 month BALLS OUT. I memorized the whole damn Kaplan Book, and...other than give me mental satisfaction while taking the test, did not directly help me get the score I got. ( I did alright...no worries).

I would suggest a Kaplan class, as it helped me tremendously. It is not just the classroom sessions, but the myriad of other resources they provide (including test day simulations!) that help you prepare for the test. Good luck to you and all others studying for the DATs. U guys are starting pretty early for applying next summer!

Does anybody have any suggestions for coming up with a study "curriculum" to prepare for the DAT?

I have heard something along these lines:

Study every week - take a practice test every other weekend (Saturday) - study the areas where you are weak. And then repeat.

Any other ideas?

I stayed off of SDN for 6 months. Try it, it helps.

😱 😱 I don't know if I can handle that... 😀

Well.. if it improves my DAT, I suppose it would be worth it. 😀 😀

The three month trend on the poll is due to the fact that DAT courses such as Kaplan last 3 months.

Basically..........take Kaplan online and you can do a 19+. But take it seriously and really learn it. Cram for a week and you will bomb the DAT just like I did the first time.

I studied for about a week using the Kaplan book, but I really didnt even look over the OChem stuff because I had just finished two semesters of it and felt pretty comfortable with it. The test isn't hard if you paid attention in your science classes during college...if you partied alot/slept in class then you might have to spend a little more time re-learning the material. Good luck with your studying...put in the effort and you will do just fine.

Hmm.. maybe a better question would be how many "hours" did you put into reviewing and compiling all the information relevant for the DAT? That may be hard to quantify.

But remember that you can't get to Mars on a plane.

I studied three hours per night and three times a week ( yeah i know i like number 3, j/k i work on the other nights) Saturdays are my prep test day and review my test results on sundays. I did that about a month or so. I didn't study at all the night before DAT b/c usually it just increased my stress level. I watched some funny vedio clips my bro forwarded to me and went to bed early 😴

If you really want a 19 or higher definitely check out the DAt Destroyer all my friends have scored at least a 20 in each section after going through and understanding the material in the DAT Destroyer. CHeck out the website orgoman.com or send me an email at [email protected]
