Did anyone hear from Miami today? When I interviewed in January, Dr. Hinkley told us that we would get an email last night or this morning....the waiting is killing me!

When I found out, we received an e-mail around 6ish at night. Good luck!

I heard like the day after he said we would hear...so no new isn't necessarily bad news!

When did you interview & hear? Just curious...I had thought he said that everyone got an email regardless of the outcome....So I'm not worried about bad news, I just want to know!

They DEFINITELY said I would get an email... then I didn't hear until a letter came. I was almost certain at that point it was a no-go.

Turned out it was an acceptance to the MD/PhD program.

Moral: don't freak.

Best of luck to all.

Why don't you wait till tomorrow (I realize that's much easier said then done) and call to see if they have gotten to people from your interview day? Sometimes they run behind, and it may be a week or 2 until the committee gets to the people from your interview group.

Thanks for the advice. I figured that's what happened but I probably call tomorrow just to make sure. It's makes it so much harder when they give you a date and then don't deliver haha!

I was also told during my interview (Mon, 23 Jan) that we would get an e-mail last night, or at the latest this morning, if we didn't hear by today to give a call . . . sounds like others haven't heard either tho . . .

Edit: Yeah, I'm not one to panic, or to needlessly bug an admissions office . . . we'll all hear something eventually.

Don't worry...I was supposed to get a response on Nov. 16....I finally got my acceptance Dec. 7. That was about three weeks after the promised date. Granted they were very busy around that time (especially in the wake of the hurricane) so I dont think that will happen in this case. Moral of the reply: dont panic if you dont hear for a couple of days. Good luck!

Dakota- I was there on the 23rd as well! how funny?I just wish they didn't tell us to expect it on a certain date. It'd be better if it was a surprise ya know?

My feelings exactly, better just to say, end of Feb or some such.

There were a number of people there, but it's possible we met. I was the guy from Virginia, about 5'10." Which tour did you go on, the first, or the second . . . I went on both because I had an afternoon interview . . .

There was someone I had a conversation about NYU with . . . I don't suppose that was you?

I think I remember you....but honestly all the people on my interviews are starting to blend together. I went on the first tour & then my interview was after it.....I definately had a conversation about NYU w/someone. I'm from NY but go to the University of Michigan, about 5'7 with long brown straight hair?

Guys, I forwarded a few of the questions I was asked on SDN recently to Dr.Hinkley - here are his responses:

(1) Right now is Miami only interviewing for alternate list spots?

Ans: This is a tough answer because AMCAS makes ALL medical schools issue a number of acceptances equal to their incoming class size by March 15. Some schools do that before March 15, some slightly later. So all schools are interviewing applicants for the "alternate list" at this time of year. But, how many of those accepted students will be here at UMMSM for orientation on August 3? About half. So, even if students are assigned to a place on the alternate list, in most cases it's a temporary placement and the majority will be eventually offered an acceptance between April and June.

(2) Does every application get ranked after the "file under review" stage?

Ans: In "file under review", every completed application is evaluated independently by three members of the admissions committee and scored. The scores are added up and used to rank students for possible interviews. This is the fairest way we've been able to come up with that allows for a truly objective comparison of the strengths of individual applications. Unfortunately, given the huge numbers of applications, it can take several weeks for an application to get three independent evaluations. We're working to improve the "turn around" time in this process.

(3) Do any applications get dinged after the file evaluation process?

Ans: If by "ding" you mean rejected, the answer is yes. Those that have very low evaluation scores are rejected periodically throughout the process and those students are not interviewed because, in the opinion of the faculty, there are stronger applicants deserving of interviews.

(4) Do anyone get an interview without being ranked?

Ans: Very, very rarely. Most of those (2-3 applicants out of 2,000) are invited for interviews before the ranking process is completed. They are all applicants to the MD-PhD program.

Minnie, Dakota...have you guys heard anything?

Got the alternate list email Thursday. Pissed off..Hope everyone fared better than I did.

I heard exactly one week later than I was supposed to.

Hi all, I just got word about interview at Miami. I'm so excited because it is my top choice school and I pretty much thought I was out of the game. I'm just really excited to have a chance to interview - even if it is only for a waitlist spot. Is there anywhere I can find reviews/advice from people who have interviewed at Miami? Also, does anyone have the numbers regarding the statistics of those who have interviewed and chances of being accepted thereafter? Thanks!
