For current P1 to P4, what did you guys do BEFORE you start your P1 year? Did you go on a cruise, did nothing, work...? Everyone is telling me to relax before classes start next year so I was wondering if anyone have any ideas. As of right now I may spend a month in Boston and maybe do site seeings around neighboring states, maybe New York.

For those that just got accepted to pharmacy school. What are you guys planning to do this summer?

Don't listen to anyone telling you what to do unless you honestly want to do it in the first place. If you want to study...study. If you want to vacation...vacation.

Personally I wish I would have spent my time memorizing drug names because in our second year we were bombarded with them.

During our first year we were bombarded with straight memorization of brand/generic/indication/dosage of the top 200. I was able to put enough in my short term memory to pass the exams, but I wouldn't be able to tell you half that stuff right now. I think it all just comes with the repetition of it. You get the same drugs covered in med chem, pharmacology, therapeutics.. that's where I remember all my drug facts from. Working in a pharmacy also helps. I didn't do much of anything the summer before I got in, and I don't regret it.

At my school, you don't do any true drug information until second year. For us, drug cards are second year Spring semester.
You have to learn the top 200, wow. We have to only learn the top 120. I am worried about that, and the drug card quizzes are cumulative. We are given from May 2006, when the list is distributed, to January 2007 to write out the 60 required drug cards.

I took it easy the summer before classes started and I'm glad I did! I don't think there is really anything I could have done to really prepare me for that first semester. I recommend taking that trip to Boston and enjoying yourself!

Thanks for the feedbacks!

I worked full-time until the first week of July. Then I moved from FL to VA and started my new job (which I had gotten in May when I was in VA looking for a house) full-time at the end of July. I had about 3 weeks off work. I just took my first vacation since my move a few weeks ago during spring break.

i just worked and enjoyed my time off from school. it definitely helped prevent burnout. i don't really think you can prepare for pharmacy school before classes except maybe memorize brand names/generic names/uses of drugs.

I plan to work full time and get back in the gym.
I also need to apply for loans, get my immunizations up to date, find an apartment, and move out around the end of July.
So yeah, it's going to be a busy summer.
I don't plan on looking at any drug names, with 4 years experience as a tech, I already know a few 😛
I will try and work on that BioChem book they want us to read.

Mangosteen, are you going to Tulsa or OKC?

I'm given a spot in Tulsa, you? I've never seen OU-Tulsa before. I plan to drop a visit this Friday. Commuting 45 minutes is too much for me but I'm clueless about the area. I'm worry about where I will be living 🙁

Any suggestion where to get this 200 drug name? thanks,

How come sometimes my signature shows up and other times it doesn't? 😕

I'm not sure if this is the reason, but I think it only shows up in posts that you make AFTER you setup the signature.

Tulsa here too. It would be about a 45 min to 1 hour commute, but I'm moving up there. It's about time for me to move out. I still live at home right now, and I can't wait to get out of here.

It only shows up once per page.

What school are you currently attending? I'm in Norman right now. I heard Tulsa is cheaper to live than OKC. I can't imagine it would be that much cheaper b/c OK is a cheap state to live in as it is. I'll see you in class next year!

Ahhh that made sense for the signature.

I have to work full time until Aug 1st. But meanwhile I'll be:

*Finishing up my immunizations
*Learning to cook
*Helping my parents find a house
*Studying biochem
*Shopping for clothes, and maybe new computer gear

No fun for me.... I only plan to take the first part of August off, my husband will be in school, so I will sit around and try to get myself bored so I will be ready to go to school!

Wave for the camera from Tulsa at me this fall. Ill be at OKC. Im the girl in leopard print. 🙂

I'll probably move up there around the end of July, maybe we can get all the Tulsa people together for a pre-school party.

Damn, 2 more things I forgot about. I definitely gotta learn how to cook.
And I'll probably breakdown and buy a laptop.

I can get pretty good deals on IBM thinkpads and just about anything from Dell - if anyone wants some help finding a good deal, let me know.

That's quite a task. You're the only other person I know that's going to OU-Tulsa.

Yea me too!!! I will spend my summer buying new dress up clothes. I heard you can still wear jeans, just no t-shirts or tennis shoes. That doesn't sound too dress up to me. Are you going to buy the biochem booklet they suggested? I have biochem textbook so I don't know if I need to buy it...but I don't know which area to focus on. 😕

Hhahaha I'll keep that in mind! You sure plan far ahead lol. You probably won't see me on the camera much because I'm usually the quiet one in the class.

Yes, you can still wear jeans, but they must be in good shape, but you can wear tennis shoes to lab. Here is a link to the student dress code:

http://pharmacy.ouhsc.edu/students/handbook/ProCode-Dress.pdf

But I want to wear skirts. I havent been able to wear a skirt for almost two years because Ive been working in a lab, and I miss them, at least until it gets cold. And lets add to my list of things to do "lose 10 lbs" so I can fit in all my dress clothes that I have from being a bank teller. 🙂

I bought "Clinical Biochemistry Made Ridiculously Simple", just because I sucked at biochem when I took it, and Ive heard this class is really rough. Im not a big fan of the textbook they use too and would like to have another reference. They will let you know which parts you need to study for the "test" in August.

I am enjoying my skirts and sandals since I quit my lab job last summer.
I though I was going to teach at Kaplan, but I quit after 2 weeks of training.
I need to finish some curtains.
Make myself another skirt.
Continue making great recipies from Gourmet Magazine.
Read a good book with my daughter
take CPR
take my last Hep B shot.
and finish A&P II and Speech (should keep me busy)
Last but not least
kill my time on SDN.... 😍

So is it ok to wear open toed dress up shoes? Man if only I was a guy - it would've been so simple.

Looks like, according to their dress code, open toes are fine, as long as your not in lab and they arent flip flops or espidrel type. I wouldnt wear them on days you go to practice sites though, or at least keep a closed toed pair in your car, because each company has different rules.

You sit in the same classroom all day anyway, so save for your toes getting cold, they really arent in any danger. Just make sure your piggies look professional. 😉

Professional piggies means no black nail polish?

I was thinking more along the lines of no overgrown cuticles and cheese-grater heels. But yeah, they might not like the black nail polish, tips or toes. 🙂
