Anyone else going to MCP Worcester and cannot wait! We're crazy!

Hey- I'll be attending, way excited, yet terrified of leaving everything I know behind! Random question:Are any of you on Facebook? It'd be nice to put a face to everyone.

My motto is don't be scared, just prepared. The prof I interviewed with said the most important parts of succeeding at MCP in his opinion, was staying organized, and not letting yourself fall behind on the material.
If you keep this in mind, I'm sure you'll be fine.
Plus, if you are aware that it isn't a cakewalk, you're already one step ahead in my opinion.
🙂

That is exactly what I think. I am preparing for the worst and maybe it will turn out a bit better. We just have to be prepared to work our butts off...I guess we will see!

Well there are people who graduate, so it can't be too bad. I agree with pharmforme, it shouldn't be a cakewalk, but it will be doable; plus we get to shave a year off!
Sadly, my main concern is handling the change from Oklahoma. I think if I can get through the first few months, I'll be fine. By the way, where is everyone else from? Just curious..
Anna

i am from Virginia 🙂

Congrats and good luck to you guys. It will be a long endeavor, and much like the opinion the professor had offered to one of the respondents above, it is true and correct. It is great that you guys are interacting now on this site, it will provide you guys the information to be prepared for your up and coming years. If you guys have any questions...feel free to ask...you can find me on myspace...

Have any of you guys received any new information latley on orientation or book lists etc.? I thought we would be hearing something soon, but I haven't. Just wondering 🙂 Have a great week!

chea small world it is...well in answering the questions about people being anxious about book list...there are certain books I may recommend you guys getting and some that you definitely will not need. At this point in time, they have not posted the book list, and to be honest, I didn't get the list at all last year. I literally bought the books i needed during orientation week. You can try to check the website in July for the list. Good luck all...

I'm not aware of any meal plans, but there are some schools around, but its not walking distance. My best advice is to maybe start to learn to cook now? I may be available to show you some tricks of the trade if you would like as I will be living in the oncampus apartments. Other than that, you can always go out and buy food at the local restaurants (which is somewhat inconvenient). But your best bet is to learn to cook, which is a skill you'll need to have in this wonderful world.

Thanks for the answer! Could you post the books that we definitley won't need? I have some friends in pharmacy school that say some books they never even opened!

I'm not sure if they will be changing the editions to the books or if there are new editions, but for sure you will need the books for the US Healthcare/Public Health class, the Human Physio/Pathophysio books, and you can possibly share the calculations book with a roommate. Biochem book is a hit or miss, if you feel that lecturing is not enough, then you may want to purchase the book, but information will be lectured and referenced from the book along with homework problems. That is all I remember from fall semester....good luck... (in other words most of the books for the fall you did need at some point)

I agree with Teak on this one--there are so many schools in Worcester that you could probably buy a meal plan from one of them, but none are in walking distance. It's probably not worth driving just to eat some cafeteria food.

As for cooking, Trader Joe's is a great resource. They have lots of frozen items that require minimal cooking skills, but taste awesome and are pretty healthy. It's not within walking distance, but you can certainly stock up there for several weeks at a time.

I don't have a schedule for orientation, but I know that move-in is on Aug 30th betweeon 9am and 2pm. Then orientation starts the next day (Thursday) at 7:45. The letter said they would be sending us all the orientation info soon. Hope this helps

Hey Guys...Does anyone know how and when we can get parking passes for the garage? And do we have a white coat ceremony, and if so then when is it? There is one on the calendar for Boston but not one for us. I wish they'd post the orientation schedule and the book list...
Can't wait to meet everyone!!! 🙂

Last year, us commuter students got our parking passes during orientation. You just fill out a form and they give you a key card on the spot. I don't know if the resident students can get one sooner, maybe on move-in day.

Our white coat ceremony was during the 3rd week of classes. They bussed down the Manchester campus, so we were all together. It was in a nearby hotel, walking distance from campus.

Do you remember if you were allowed to have family attend the white coat ceremony? I have called the school numerous times to ask about this and they keep telling me they know nothing and we will find out during orientation...

Lol I'm pretty sure once we start classes that the road there won't seem all that challenging....but we can always hope!

Pharmforme (and to all other future MCPHS students),

To be completely honest...I felt the same way you did about coming into this school, but there is actually alot of work to be done. You all have done a tremendous amount of work just to get here, definitely take a deep breath and smell some of the roses, b/c come fall, those roses may smell a little off...and believe you me...there will be plenty of work to be done before you are finished with this school....

Is it a lot harder than undergraduate, like UC Irvine?

DrNiceGuy-
That is actually how I'm approaching it...I'm preparing to spend all my time studying/working, with no semblance of a life 🙂. I think Cangelili is just excited. Of the many steps on this road, many of us were concerned about making it this far!
Thanks for your input and making sure we all stay focused and realistic 🙂
I don't see your posts here much. I'm assuming you're always studying 😉 ? It's mice to hear from current students of the Worcester program.

I'd say some classes were alot easier, but in general, I'm spending alot of time studying, but it makes sense to, we are prepping for a tough career where many lives depends on our knowledge...

Yea that is true, I am studying quite a bit, but that is due to the numerous exams they are giving us this summer. It is definitely a good attitude you are having, and being realistic is definitely something you have to have when you get into the grind. I only post as necessary here. I started a topic a while back but haven't gotten much response towards it. Oh well. 2 months away for you guys and gals, you all should be a little excited. I know I was last year coming into it. Well start prepping if you can, get your financial aid in ASAP, and don't under borrow on your loans, you will need pretty much what they are estimating...GL

Hey Guys...Got my bill from MCP today 😱 . Looks like i'll be eating Ramen noodles for the next 2 years 10 months! Anybody else living off campus and wondering how they are gonna afford rent, utilities, misc bills, and food????
