No, I'm not trying to be a tool. It's just that so many people have told me they don't get good results that I thought I'd give some tips.

First off - don't use the Google engine. It blows. Use this one:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/search.php?

Second - if you're searching for something in Pre-Allo - make sure you limit the search to pre-allo. Select it under Forums (Bottom left).

Third - choose to search just thread titles (drop down menu under "keywords").

Lastly - search something kinda general. If you're wondering about clinical experience. Search for that, not "hospitals volunteering patients" you're not going to get many results.

Okay - now that I feel like a huge tool, I guess I just want to know if anyone else have any other tips that have worked for them.

Awesome thread. I'm always afraid of posting questions for fear of getting the infamous "hey fool, this is in 80 bazillion threads that were started way back in the day and you clearly suck at life," response... so this will be helpful 🙂

Don't forget to search for threads with at least one response. Doesn't do you any good to read ten threads that lived and died on the first post. Other than that, I use everything you listed above. 👍

sometimes threads aren't titled accurately, so if that doesn't work, you want to select the "show individual posts" & it'll show you posts that contain the search words you were looking for. If there appear to be a lot of responses from one thread, it's useful to open that thread & read it

use more than 3 letter words or it won't search
quotation marks for exact phrases you're looking for
use the ampersand (&) for multiple key words

PS Anastasis-One= 😍

Don't kill yourself worrying about whether people have posted before. It takes no effort to just ignore a post that you're not interested in responding to. People simply like to berate others, especially anonymously. Similarly, when there's a thread on abortion, "do I have a chance of getting into ____" etc., people are happy to go on that thread to complain about it. You're doing these folks a favor.

Okay - inspired by the discussion in the other thread... does anyone have something to add?
pretty old thread you bumped up.
this is all i can contribute 😛

Only thing I would add is that you should consider how the search works when you title your own threads... Try to make it searchable for people looking for similar information in the future.

For example:

*** SUPER IMPORTANT!! NEED HELP NOW!! ***

will not be particularly searchable or helpful in the future...
