What do you fellow pre-meds do?

I'm not talking silly Women's Studies classes, here. I'm talking pre-reqs -- multiple pre-reqs. How high of a success rate have you had asking professors for permission to attend?

In fact, since I'm a transfer student, EVERY single class I need is full already. And I can't register myself for another week. Chemistry, Biology, and Economics (all necessary) are full already.

Shoot me, or help me,

E-mail the professor and then show up for the 1st day of class. They'll understand your case, and most will be willing to help.

Now, "silly Women's Studies classes"? 🙄

I was kidding.

I love women.

Yeah, most of the time profs will let you enroll for one of those classes if it's required for your degree/career plan. This would especially be the case since they anticipate people dropping out of the chem and bio class anyway.

What is silly about Women's Studies? There are a lot of really interesting classes in that discipline. 👎 Don't be an a-hole.

Here's what you do, ace, go see your counselor. Maybe they can give you an add code or whatever. I'm sure you and your negative attitude are not the first to not get all of the classes that you so desperately "need."

I was being sarcastic. Just like every typical pre-med thinks ONLY medical related subjects are important.

I'll smack the next person that bolds, or brings up in any way, my joke.

Oh, but thank you for the replies, honestly.

You are truly a piece of work.
Your comment didn't come off as sarcastic, either. 👎
Go see your guidance counselor. They should be able to sort out your schedule--I know there are exceptions for transfer students, you just might not get the discussion or lab section you want. But that is how it goes, at least you're in the class, right? Make sure you enroll on time as well (on your first pass or whatever). Also if your school has an honors program, you could try to join that. At UCSB, it meant we enrolled earlier and took all of the SWEET lab/disc times.

Ok ok, the guy has been punished enough for putting his foot in his mouth (though I'll admit the comment does not sound sarcastic whatsoever.)

Anyway, I think the first thing you should do is go to a guidance counselor/academic advisor since they would be the most willing to accomodate your needs especially since you are a transfer student.

If that doesn't work, I agree that e-mailing professors and explaining your situation will most likely solve the problem. For the most part, this works very well since most professors will gladly bypass the registration regulations because they don't care if an extra student attends.

Either way, best of luck.

Thank you for the replies...It's motivational.

And for the record, I thought the "I'm talking pre-reqs -- multiple pre-reqs" deal got the sarcasm across. You know, the whole "I'm mean business" thing. Ahh, I still refuse to believe my foot ever came near my mouth -insert sarcasm-suggestive emoticon-.

Again, I really appreciate the help.

e-beef is stupid, idiotic, and above all terrible...cant people ever get over a sarcastic joke? i wonder what some of you premeds are like in real life geeeez...it makes me wanna pull out my hair because i love this profession so much and want dummies like you to scoot over!!! Dont mind them Pose and dont even apologize for sarcasm...

btw, I would recommend that you try to sort it out with a professor or counselor..tell them you really need these classes now because they are requirements for your prereqs/degree

Why must you troll?

I'm in the same position wrt one of my prereq classes for the fall. school never notified me that it was time to register, then I inadvertently found out that all sections of this class were full (thankfully the other classes I need still were open). anyhow, I fully intend to go to this class on the first day, explain my situation to the professor and inform him/her that I'm going to attend the class every day, so s/he might as well officially add me to the roster.

I'm a nontrad, so I've already been to college and I'm not intimidated by the thought of doing this. also, I will bake some excellent cookies for the professor.

Why are pre-meds so mean?

It sounds like the beginning to a bad joke.

Find out a little more about the registration policies at your new school. At our school, we have some classes that have spots reserved for freshman and transfer student's registration (the class looks full until their registration begins). Also, there might be waitlists...that's how our school works. If you don't get in before the class is full, you sign up for the waitlist and when people drop (as they inevitably do) they take off the waitlist. Depending on the class, profs occassionally let in the top 10 or so on the waitlist regardless of if it moves or not (but labs have more restrictions on number). BTW...you know economics isn't required for pre-med, right?

join the honors program for early registration.

but show up the first day with an add/drop form. people always drop, so you'll get in (maybe not for labs/discussions though)
