Thanks! What's mini-med school??

It's usually a lecture series that talks about medical issues for premeds and the general public. usually a small fee, sometimes with a certificate, maybe a chance to get an LOR, and sometimes with a chance to meet med school faculty or alumni. Just another avenue to meet someone connected to your future med school if you have the time. Here is an example of OSU (not updated for 2006-2007):

not sure if the speakers are alum, faculty or neither.

I updated a link to find minimedschools in each state.

KCOM encourages individual visits. I am going this Friday! Just called admissions and chatted with an awesome counselor, then I confirmed a visit.

So, if you are close to a med school..it is a good idea to go do a private visit? I was unsure about this?

Has anyone gone yet and can give some advice?

Yes. Yes. Yes. If you are close to a school and they allow it, get a visit. I was told the more they see of me the easier they will remember me when my application is reviewed. I know this is kind of common sense, but it is still good to hear it from the admissions people.

agree with fitnessexpert. Showing interest helps in the application process. some schools may not even offer open house but allow individual visits. An example would be UNECOM.

Does KCOM have an Open House or do they only offer individual school visits? Thanks!

Are you a Personal Trainer? I have a CPT and CSCS cert from NSCA. put that in your application, 2ndry, or PS.

is it advisabe to go to an open house a yr before you apply, i.e nycom
i am planning to apply next application cycle but i want to show my interested should i go to this yrs open house and try to make myself known or wait till next yr?

If you have free time then go this year, talk to the director and assoc director of admissions and introduce yourself, show interest, and let them know you'll be applying in a year.

Dr. Ross is not the dean any more but during 2005 Open House she did say hi to some students who were at the Open House for the second time.

I will call and schedule an appointment. But, should I wait until classes start up again or go now? I also have a freind who is a 4th year there..should I ask him for some assistance on who to talk to or go at it alone?

so those sessions are they during interviews...ie the KCUMB ones are sept 15th, oct 13 adn nov 10th. and theyr are in KAnsas city i presume.

I just registered for one but im not sure if i a really going....anyhow...i was a bit confused as they dont provide any info about the info sessions.

Light refreshmens will be served.
RSVP: [email protected] or 215-871-6700

Please include name, home address, email, phone and total number attending.

Let me say I have seen several students being escorted around by admissions folks lately. Seeing as UNECOM isn't interviewing yet, my assumption is these are people with an individual tour of the facilities prior to application.

CCOM open house ----> October 14th:)

i got this info through massage system from the conselor. They should have more about it on their website soon. or call 630-515-7200.

I'm generally a very casual dresser (which will have to ultimately change, I know!). I know interview days require business attire, but what about these open houses? How formal do folks typically dress for these?

Thanks!

not a bad question, btw, i will be attending NYCOM and PCOM in the next month or so

At last years Open House @ PCOM, the majority of the guys wore casual/everyday clothes. I went the dork route and wore a shirt and tie. If you schedule to meet with one of the admissions faculty, wear professional attire.

How/When/Why did you schedule a meeting with an adcom member?

How/When/Why did you schedule a meeting with an adcom member?

How: Just call them up and ask to speak with someone on the admissions committee (Director or asst. directors).

When: I scheduled the meeting a week or so before the Open House.

Why: To tell them about myself and to make the whole application process to go by smoothly. (once they recieved my August MCAT score in oct...I was offered an interview within a couple weeks and was accepted before X-Mas)

looks like I will have to back out of the PCOM open house... I have to go take the Oath of Allegiance for my US citizenship at 8:45am in Hartford, CT..and it could take up to 3 hours which puts me at 11:45 that I am still in Harftord. I dont think it is possible to make it to philly by 4.... too bad, I really wanted to go.

does anyone know what time the NYCOM open house is at?

if nobody knows, i will investigate, as i'm a grad student there too ;)

who else is going?? i'm excited to see some SDN-er's!

Was Nova's open house for the med school as well? Mann, I missed it:mad:
