Hey, its going to be my first visit to the east coast in a long time.
What is the best (easiest, cheapest) way to get from Mt Sinai to BU?
 
Peter Pan bus is like 20 bucks.

Greyhound. If I remember correctly BU has a Greyhound stop. Just make sure you show up around 1-2 hours early, 2 if it is a friday or a saturday (unless real early in the morning). Stand in line and don't give up your spot no matter what you do. If you see two lines, one for express and one for local, always take the shorter line. With greyhound, it isn't a game of how soon you get to your destination, it's a game of whether you even get on the damn bus. They oversell tickets and people get left behind to take another bus that is coming 2 hours later, this is how they make money.
 
take the chinatown bus from nyc to boston. i think they're like $15.75 each way. google these two companies: fung wah and lucky star.

they pick up in chinatown on Canal St. in nyc and drop you off at South Station Bus Terminal in boston, where you can then take a subway train to BU.
 
Peter Pan is MUCH better than Greyhound. They split the NYC-BOS schedule so certain times are designated Peter Pan times.

Get there early since it's first come, first served...I had to wait for an extra 40 minutes for the next bus over labor day weekend and almost missed a ferry in Boston...
 
fung wah just had another roll-over, and almost lost their accreditation...pay the $10 extra and go greyhound.

or even better...jet blue does it one way for $60.
 
chinatown shuttles are def sketchy...but soooo cheap. the only way to go in my opinion. plus, the ones i've taken usually pick-up at a chinese bakery so you can get a yummy pastry while you wait...mmmm
 
I wouldn't take the chinatown buses...just spend the extra $5-10 and take greyhound...

You could always take the Acela train or other Amtrak up there, though obviously that costs more.
 
I once got stuck on the Chinatown shuttle, rather than bus, that leaves at the half-hour if there are too many people. Greyhound it.

👍 to Jetblue. Oddly enough, it's usually cheaper (and always much faster) to fly Jetblue than to take Amtrak....

Ditto. I heart JetBlue. 👍

While the bus between NYC and BOS is cheaper, I would ask: how badly do you want to get to Boston ON TIME? Trains and planes are more reliable time-wise than buses. I feel like Greyhound and Peter Pan are just asking to get you caught in city traffic.

My girlfriend lives in NY so I've taken the Fung Wah bus b/w Boston and NY a lot, and I have to say, all in all, it sucks a$$. It's dirt cheap, but on two occasions the bus stalled in CT and we had to wait for a replacement, which added 2 extra hours to the trip.

The only advantage is cost, but you still need to get from South Station (in Boston, where the bus drops off) to BU, which wont be easy by train, since you have to switch at least two lines, and then walk another mile to get from the Mass ave station to the Hampton (I'm presuming youre staying there since theres no other option around). So, you're probably going to get a cab, which is gonna cost at least $15, probably $20. If you catch a Jetblue sale fare, it would be much better since you can have the hampton shuttle pick you up for free at the airport.
 
i'm surprised nobody mentioned this.
if you decide to choose Greyhound or Peterpan, type in the Coupon Code "NYBOSR" to get $20 tickets. Otherwise, your ticket will be at least $30 each way.
 
Chinatown buses are definitely cheap, but as one poster said, sketchy. I've taken them 7-8 times in the past between various cities on the East Coast, and once, I got left at a gas station and had to make a gazillion calls to finally get someone who finally arranged for another bus on the way to pick me up. They wouldn't let the original bus turn around, even though it had left like 5 minutes ago... and suggested that I hitchhike back... I refused. I ended up waiting like 2.5 hrs at the gas station. This particular company is called Apex Bus FYI (don't think they serve Boston specifically). Still... I'd take Chinatown buses again because they're sooo cheap! You see lots of college students taking these buses.

Also, 👍 👍 to JetBlue being cheaper than Amtrak. On my most recent trip, between DC/Boston it was going to be something like $150 Amtrak, and $125 JetBlue.

Tufts is super-close to South Station (red line on subway/bus terminal(Peter Pan, Greyhound, Fungwah)/amtrak terminal. its a 5 minute cab ride. i'd take acela one-way going to your interview and cheapie chinatown bus giong back. the fungwah bus picks up and drops off at south station in boston, whereas it picks up and drops off at chinatown in NY (near little italy).

In your own car or in a rented car?

Same problem as the bus = traffic.
Bigger problem = you're tired.

Your own car is maybe cheaper if you add up gas and tolls. Don't forget, depending how you leave NYC the bridges are $4-7!!
