hi there!

anyone here going to fatima? i finished my premed last year in UST but it was just a week after the registration deadline that i decided to "beg" the CEM people to give me a chance to take the NMAT coz i dont wanna waste another year!

fortunately, i was able to take the exam and got a good score! but unfortunately, because the decision was so untimely... the application for most of the "good schools" were closed already. my choices: fatima or st. lukes. Although FEU is still open, it would be a no-no for my parents because of the location.

My bet would be fatima for now, am i making the right decision? i don't want to be miserable because of a wrong decision. 4 years of med school is very long!

Any thoughts are welcome! thanks!

Anyway, i enjoyed reading the posts here!

Better delay it!

I heard UERM still accepts students even for april takers of NMAT, UERM is a far better school

Better make the sacrifice for FEU- it far outweighs FATIMA

Better St. Lukes than Fatima

Anything but Fatima

It would be better if you take a year off if circumstances allow. Med school is one of those things you invest yourself in (4 years worth and then some), and it would be best to give yourself all the options you deserve.

gosh... you are so brutal! hehehe:laugh: you make it sound like the school (fatima) never should have existed in the first place!

may i ask why you said that about fatima?

nEway, im still a thomasian at heart wherever this medicine journey brings me! Good luck to us!🙂

hi sir doc!

tnx for the advice...

question: do you believe in signs? divine intervention and all that stuff?😀 sounds rediculous to a man of science, ayt? Anyway, I do... I've already rested for a year trying to figure things out. And this is where it took me. Medicine finally. And i think it's the perfect time for me... hahaha!

Thanks again!

I will not argue with your sentiment. I, too, believe that certain things come to be at their perfect time. But do you really want to go to Fatima or St. Luke's? Do you not think that your talents might be better off somewhere else? If you believe that you will become the doctor you can be anywhere you go, then by all means attend St. Luke's med. I will not say anything against Fatima; the bias is too strong.

You will encounter issues with both schools. Probably in other schools as well. I just also believe in not shortchanging ones self.

of course your still a thomasian at heart (am a half breed Thomasian so I know- to be Thomasian rather); its just, medschool is not something, I think, you should entrust with just someone. Nakakapanghinayang yung matrikulang ibabayad mo- and just for what? Para kang nakikipagsugal na dehado ka kung sa Fatima ka papasok.

Choose a school because you want to go there. Don't just settle unless you're really sure you'd be happy there. I find nothing wrong with going to Fatima or St. Luke's. I'm sure both schools have good teachers and provide good medical education and clinical skills. Learn about the school you're interested in, the methods of teaching, the clinical exposure, etc. It's not all about board passing rates, no matter how hard people emphasize them to be. The school that you'll choose will help you to become a doctor, regardless of where you graduated from. You have to compete with yourself. Challenge yourself to become the best. Leave the school rivalry to the college.

There's no place for regrets in choosing a school. Because the knowledge, the experiences, and the friends you'll gain from it far outweighs everything else.

Good Luck!

Hello..

I feel for you. I really think that you should not rush this. In my opinion, take that year and wait to get accepted to better schools. St. Lukes or UE are good schools if you want to go there.

Just a little personal experience with fatima:

During my first year in UST med, i hung out with a few fatima med students and i was really curious about the quality of their education. I heard alot of negative comments from the past threads, and i thought i should investigate! What better way than to talk to students from that school....straight from the source.

Ok one thing really surprised me. I tried to ask questions about their class size, subjects, requirements, etc but what really caught my eye.....

I tried to compare my anatomy class to theirs in terms of learning methods. I am from UST by the way, so i asked a really important question...... How's the dissection? I told the fatima student that we started dissecting our cadavers on the very first day of anatomy class!
He told me that they have not done any cadaver dissections yet and i think it was already the 4th month of school! They said they were about to start. I am not completely sure but i assumed they must be using models for the first few months? I did not ask since i did not want to sound demeaning. And trust me, we have models in anatomy lab as well as side stuff, but they were definitely not the same as the real cadavers. Believe me since i studied both the cadaver and models.....they are as different as comparing paper versus plastic!

Oh well, thought this would give you a little perspective.
If I were you, i would wait than go to fatima. Good luck.

Even UERM has clerkship in St. John's Episcopal (Far Rockaway) in NY. Plus a Chicago hospital too. So consider UERM too.

bottomline: it's not the school but the doctor inside you.🙂
(i'm a med student at la salle and took my premed from up diliman)

if i were you i'd wait a year and go for a relatively better medschool in terms of reputation and facilities, i think it's quite big a factor. St.Luke's has a good medical center with all the good diagnostic facilities, and you'll get to have your internship there.
