Now, I'm happy to rake in over 100k per year and just relax when I get home.
taken from the pharmacy forum: med vs pharm difficulty.

dgroulx, thank you so much for sharing. You know, your posts are very informative and enjoyable to read. Anyways, you might wonder out of all the things you wrote, that I found your very last sentence the subject of my post. Well, I'm a nontrad and at times, I really considered clinical pharmacy even though it'd take an extra 1 or 2 yrs beyond pharmacy school. However, I've read about retail making a lot more money and at this stage of my life, I would love to rake in as much as I can for my pharmacy investment. Although I know that money is not everything, I no longer feel that I'm out to cure cancer or something. ** What area of pharmacy are you in (thought I read that you'd prefer retail in an earlier post)? Given that you just graduated (Congrats!!!!!), do you feel that exceptional grades helped you negotiate this six figure salary? I'm looking to have a retail pharmacy defray the cost of pharmacy tech exam and if I remain with them, do you suppose upon graduation I can get exceptional six figure salary? Finally, do you feel that coming from UF (exceptional school) played a role in negotiating your satisfied high salary? I'm inclined to say that a pharmd is a pharmd. And in the state of Florida, UF and Nova tops (pls forgive me other students) But perhaps, all pharmd's are not created equal.

Again, congrats Dr.dgroulx and much success in your future career!

P.S. What do you think of UF's PharmD MBA program. Please PM me if certain things are beyond the scope of this post.

** I went into pharmacy because of a loved one experience with gastric cancer. I wanted to change the world. Alas, personal circumstances necessitate a 'quick' career and lots of cash. My motives, thus, for entering the field is mostly to make money and support my future family. Anyone in this situation, please feel free to post.

I fail to see the point of this post other than a very poor attempt at slander.

Blah, I just typed up a huge post and decided not to post it. All I got to say is $100k/yr isn't THAT MUCH money. At least not life changing relaxing on the beach and taking vacations anytime type of money.

Haha. I agree. I would love to quote this in a row. And I think people do not understand this. It is not Mercedes SLK money. I guess going from 50k-100k sounds like a huge jump, but all it does it take you into the next tax bracket =/

True

$120,000/year is nice but it doesnt give you the financial freedom you might think.

Everytime 60 Minutes or 20/20 are doing a show on debt most of the families featured are making around $150k a year, but living well outside their means and carry around $50k+ in credit card debt alone. People seem to think that having an income with six figures gives the freedom to buy mansions, take multiple vacations a year, and own multiple brand new cars. They fail to notice that "1" that's the first number in their income or don't take into consideration what their income really is after taxes.

$100-150k plus means you can live a very comfortable middle class existence with the occasional indulgence and still be able to save up for retirement and your children's education. Of course this all depends on where you live in the country too. $100k will go much farther if you're living in the middle of nowhere Mississippi rather than say Boston or San Francisco.

From surgeons, doctors, optometrists, to pharmacists will say that the time and effort in studying will not be worth the amount of money you get and you will be much better off working for electronics company or other buisness related jobs if all you want is the $$$.

A single person in Philadelphia making $120,000 takes home around $70,000 after taxes.

So roughly $5,500 per month.

Poor? No.

Rich? Hardly.

If you can stomach doing something like that for the rest of your life.

You need to be happy going to work every day. At least thats how I feel.

Now...did money help my decision in my career path? In a way, yes.

But I wouldnt sacrafice enjoyment of my job and life for a few extra dollars.
