I read somewhere about places where you type in your individual MCAT scores, science GPA cum GPA, and state of residency and it tells you how competitive you are at MD schools. It also shows you how much certain aspects affect your overall competitiveness score.

I tried searching the forums but didn't have any luck. Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm searching for? If anyone could post a link I would really appreciate it!

The evaluations seem to favor MCATs heavily over GPA scores... Low GPA with a high MCAT is listed as very competitive everywhere...

I find these sites a bit odd. If applying to med school were so cookie cutter, more than 50% would get in (because fewer people would be applying).

While the MCAT is indeed important, having an extremely high score, especially at a state school, doesn't really mean that much. I mean, come on, who really thinks that a person with a 43 will make a better doctor than someone who has a 32 (and if you do, 🙄).

In any case, remember the complete package people!

I agree with you guys. I posted the links but I definitely take them with a grain of salt. Med school admissions just isn't as simple as plugging in your numbers. That said, these sites can give you a rough idea of what schools you should and shouldn't focus on.

Says the person with the 32 (and not 43)!!! 😉

Just kidding. 😀

mcat scores are CLEARLY directly correlated with patient satisfaction of the respective physician. duh....

thanks. the reason i ask is because i feel pretty confident about my LOR's, PS, and EC's. I have done a lot of research, volunteer work, shadowing, and working in hospitals/doctor's offices. i also feel confident about my interviewing skills.

i haven't taken the MCAT yet, but my GPA is low and my science GPA is high and I have an big upward trend in my cum GPA. So my choices will basically be limited to my MCAT when I get it (mid 30s on practice tests) and my GPA.

thanks again 🙂

good luck on those cats, don't let them get you down. If you do well, you will be pretty golden for your schools im sure.

i'm pretty confident about the MCAT. it is my cum GPA that worries me. i averaged a 2.51 my first two years and a 3.95 my second two years... the science GPA is a 3.8.

Relax OP, you're starting your junior year of college this Fall, right? There's insufficient data to assess how competitive an applicant you are, and to suggest you have a "trend" in the span of four semesters is something of a joke.

actually starting my 5th year. i went to college full time for my junior and senior years of high school and all that completely counts equally to college post high school graduation. so those two years i had a 2.51 GPA. since i graduated high school and started college i had the 3.95. so i'd say 8 semesters give me pretty good grounds to claim i have an upward trend.
