It looks like the common view among the medical student community is that medical students/residents will no longer be eligible for economic hardship deferment under the recently passed higher education reconciliation legislation. My interpretation is that eligibility is not changed, but that they are simply creating a new form of repayment plan called the income based repayment plan, which is different from deferment. Im looking for information about how the legislation is being interpreted.
