MSUCOM Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I had an MSU COM student tell me they're planning on stopping thhe use of interviews. I find that a bit weird, but some MD schools do it too - UNC-CH only invites people they already planned on accepting.

I believe for the most part they've already stopped using interviews.

MSU only interviews people that they have hesitations about accepting, yet that they are still interested in. They offer the vast majority of acceptances without any kind of interview. Once accepted, they then give you the option to go on a 'campus visit' day, which is equivalent to any other med school's interview day, minus the actual interview. On the visit day, they give you a couple of presentations about the school, take you on a student tour, and feed you. Then you are free to go!

Yup. I just got back from mine.

doesn't MSUCOM like accept a huge portion of thier students from michigan alone? close to 90% of thier entering class is from michigan alone.

Thats kind of great news for michigan residents, since Wayne state and MSUCHM is like that too, bascially, out of 1100 michigan applicants who apply each cycle, about 700+ of them get acceptances from MSUCOM/MSUCHM/and wayne, thats more than 50%

I read 80% come from MI.... =)

should've moved to MI long~ time ago~ -.-

Yeah Jae =(

For the benifit of everyone else--- What was your interview like?

For those of you who went to a visit day... Did they ask you any specific questions? and should we dress professionally or is it more casual? Thank you for your answers in advance 🙂

~90% for COM and ~65% for CHM are in-state.

I did the visit/interview last year and here is a summary:

Very relaxed, you get a student-guided tour, and lunch with them as well, then a few of the faculty members talk about the school/curriculum/financial aid/scs, student life, etc... and they answer any questions/concerns you may have.
