I will let you be the judge, but in my opinion I have posted a more complete (25-27 institutions vs. 16 institutions) and current list than the pathology outlines website.

How competitve are GI fellowships? Let's say dermpath fellowships are a "10" (most competitve) where would you rate GI in terms of competitiveness?

If you train in a program without a GI fellowship, are your chances very slim as with dermpath?

I would rate GI a "9" - highly competitive, limited number of programs, but do not have to compete with dermatologists for spots.
Local connections and a home court advantage definitely help. How slim your chances are will depend on your credentials, LORs, etc.
