Recently the ADA has decided to restrict the viewing of the DAT frequency tables. It apparently deems that mere mortals cannot be trusted to peruse the info. One wonders if the June to December 07 results had something to do with the change in policy.

Frequency tables is a listing of the DAT scores (all sections) from 0 to 30 with the number of applicants who obtained a particular score. Until recently those tables were available through the ADA website. Access to the info is now restricted.

Not necessarily. Your particular subgroup did better or worse than the general population.

what my question is, is how does harvard have a 24.4 AA when only 1 person made a 26 and 5 make a 25. did every single person that made a 25 get in or something last year?!?!?!

I wonder... do dental schools use these frequency tables when reviewing applicants' DAT scores? Since someone's AA20 from 2 years ago may be different from someone's AA20 from today........ just a thought... 😕

Dont suppose you have the previous years results available? These scores look pretty abysmal in some sections.

Hmm.. that was a good observation. I wonder most people w/ AA25 or higher decided to attend Harvard??

now what makes wonder even more is where predents.com gets their stats because looking at the chart below, you can see that if every single person that made a 24 or better went to harvard (26 people) and then 9 other people that made a 23 decided to go to harvard, the predents.com and ADA numbers don't match up. I mean, with the scores given by the ADA the highest possible entering AA for ANY school is only a 23.97.

could someone please tell me where predents.com gets their numbers from??

ahhh....nevermind....as i'm sitting here posting this reply, it has dawned on me. the link for the frequency table shows scores for the 2007 year only. I guess schools, like harvard, had people enter in 2007 that had taken their test in 2006 or earlier...i feel like a dummy 🙄

I guess the predents stats are based on the users' profiles??
Anyway, even if we assume that there were about equal proportion of people getting scores of 25+ in yr 2006 (i don't have the table for '06), that makes it about 50 people in two years. And Harvard accepts what.. 35 people every year? It amazes me that Harvard is taking the majority of those people, if not almost all of them (since that 50 ppl would be over the span of two years obviously!).

I think it should be noted that the frequency table only applied to students who took the exam for the 1st time. Every Retry thereafter will not appear on that frequency table your looking at.

Example.. if you get an 18AA, then retake it 3 months later and get a 22AA... Only the 18AA will appear on the frequency table.

You will not know the all the scores made during an application cycle.

So it does seem like the average score went down by a lot for 2007 test takers. I mean, look at the AA average of 17. Lowest in the last decade. Seems like this is due to the screwed up QR section they had last year (look at the average of 15.7 in QR last year..just horrible).

ADA realized they did something wrong with their tests and now they are hiding the results.

And if they factor in the retakers, the average should go down even more, since history shows that retakes, as an average, score lower. I even think that ADA is intentionally excluding the retakers for 2007 to minimize the decrease in the average score.

The Harvard 24.4 average was for the class of 2010 that entered in 2006. They most likely took their DATs in '05. The Harvard class of 2011 that entered in 2007's AA was 22.7 (iirc, these have also been posted for every school just search for it). That DAT frequency chart is for those of us who took that DAT in 2007 and will most likely be entering in 2008, so you won't be able to really compare those DAT frequency stats to the school averages posted in the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools until the edition released spring of '09.

The stats sure have gone down though, makes me feel better about my 2007 scores.

yeah makes me feel better as well, but at the same time, I think if the decrease is mainly due to increase in difficulty of the exam, this would be very unfair (since some people could have taken the DAT on 2006, or in Canada). I bet ADA did something wrong.

Check out the 2006 vs 2007 stats

Harvards 25+ avg must have come from the 2006 stats.

In 2007 only 5 people got 25's and only 1 person got a 27



Heres the link to the July 2006- to June 2007 tables

6 got 27's
5 got 26's
44 got 25's

So if Harvard based its numbers off that its possible the avg was 25+


But in the Jan 2007-Dec 2007 the scores dropped alot

1 person got a 27
only 5 got 25's

this would explain why Harvard dropped from 25+ avg to 22. There was virtually no students that attained those ultra high scores.


I am excited to see the 2008 tables. I felt pretty special after seeing the 2007 since I got a 25. But compared to the 2006-2007 tables I'm less impressed with myself.

Has anyone been able to access the 2008 score frequency tables?

I've been told that the tables should be compiled by now, but only adcoms have access.

The folks at the ADA would not budge, told me to try and get the 2008 data from the adcoms, even though they tell adcoms not to give the information out...(???)

Why did this information recently become so private?

How about the person who got a 1 on the TS and the person who got a 4 on AA.. What could have possibly happened? haha it may be easier to get 20+ in both TS/AA than end up with those scores.. I solute you, whoever and wherever you may be..

I really want to see the 2008 tables too. My QR in 2007 would have been beaten/tied by only 3 people! :-0 that's cool to say out loud, but I wonder what the stats were for '08

dude must have come in and TRIED to miss every question


for all that get into dental school we should have a comp who can get the lowest score possible on the DAT this summer hahaha
