Dear CCOM students, I looked through the curriculum sheet I got during the interview day and found we will be taking 5 psychiatry couses during first two years. PSY I, II and III are taken during first year. Why so much emphasis on PSY, I do not think I have ever seen any med school with so much PSY. Additionally, I did not see organ systems covered during 2nd year. What do you guys study during 2nd year? I noticed pharmacology, FP, ID, OMM. In many other schools, the 2nd year is pretty much devoted to organ systems.

At DMU we have 36 PSY classes and two exams...so I don't think its anything odd. Not to mention our beh. med course first year.

But what if CCOM has 36 Psy classes for each of their 5 Psy courses - now that would be out of control.

It is 5 courses: PSY I, II, III, IV, and V. Each is 2 credits

no ccom students on here?

Yes, we have 5 psych classes technically, but don't read too much into this. The first two are convered during the first four weeks of the first quarter. Psych III is during Spring quarter the first year and it only meets once a week. The classes are very easy and not very in-depth.

As for the 'organ systems' classes, we do not have individual classes on the organ systems the second year, but each system is covered in the context of the other classes. For example, pathology, practice of medicine, etc.

Hope this helps.

Psych 1-4 is taught by a psychologist and are pretty laid back. Psych 5 is taught by an MD and is pretty hardcore, although we only have 2 hours a week of class....
