Hey folks,

I can barely believe I'm posting this but I got into Hopkins today- fully funded MSTP!!!!!!!!!

I know some of you out there have acceptances- so let's start the thread- you can pick the format for the list (by school or by screen name)

Who called, Bob Siliciano? Did he call Friday? Do you know how many funded spots they decided to offer after their first meeting on Thur? I hope I get in, I hope I get in...

Dr. Silicano called me Friday afternoon. They had their comittee meeting on Thursday. I don't know how many they chose to accept in this first pool, but I'm sure you could call on Monday and they would tell you your status. Good luck!!!

Thanks everyone for your best wishes. I'm sure you will all have accpetances very soon and that this thread will get very long.

Jot- Congrats again on Wash U (if you recall- I was standing right next to you when you got that phonecall)

Jot- and anyone else who interviewed at Cornell-
Do you know if they call us on Dec. 11- or just make their decision that day. I don't remember.

Harps-
I don't know if its appropriate for me to post my stats on the board- but I have a ridiculous amount of research experience, and I've heard from many interviewers that my letters of rec were really good. If you really want to know numbers- PM me.

Hi Diana,

Congrats!

I'm wondering what full funding really means? Does it mean that they garrantee to pay for your med school tuition and provide you with phd stipends??

I thought all MSTP programs provide full funding doesn't it??

Please advise.

Hi Laccase,

All MSTP progams do provide full funding- meaning tuition plus stipend.

Hopkins is a bit unique in its admissions for MD/PhD. When they accept you, they can do so with or without guaranteed funding. Even if you are accepted without funding, the money usually becomes available later in the year- and they notify you then. Although, they said that some students at Hopkins pursue an MD/PhD without funding (i.e.- the nonfunded slots are MD/PhD slots but not MSTP slots- if that makes any sense.)

At least that is my understanding of the process at Hopkins.

Diana is right, Hopkins can either choose to give you full funding with your acceptance up front or could put you on hold for funding until later (I got accepted in December, but didnt receive funding till April)

Thats the one thing I didnt like about the Hopkins admissions process...
 
i thought they did a candidate review thing first, then gave out acceptances --- guess things are different this year? also got the nope from hopkins mstp - but i think hopkins med is cool with me. cool.

I think you are talking about Baylor here. Hopkins doesnt have anything called a "candidate review" but Baylor does.

I will try to make it to the date that Brian and Andrew suggested, although I am not sure whether they mean that there are going to be two designated revisit days (since they told me it would be the first two weekends in April). We also have the option of scheduling a time independent of the designated days to go take a second look.

I guess I will jump in here. I am still kicking myself for my choice of schools that I applied to. But, oh well, I can't go back in time. Hopefully UPenn or Duke (my #1 and #2 choices) will give me some love in the next 2 months...

I was also accepted by the U of Maryland MD/PhD program (my safety school) very early on, but I am turning that down in light of my other acceptances.
