I highly recommend the Kaplan workbooks. The practice questions on there were actually harder than what I saw on the PCAT. I also like how it is very comprehensive so I did not have to dig out my notes from gchem, ochem, and bio. Do not be intimidated by the thickness of the workbook, if you just break each section down and go over one a day you'll be ready by October for sure. If you use the 2007 edition or older than make sure you review more ochem because there's more of that now.

I suggest you buy a range of books. Kaplan is not sufficient in the chem or the math sections. Search around the site because there are tons of threads with suggestions on the best ones. I've sort of blocked out all that info now, so I'm not much help on specifics.

I'm definitely getting the Kaplan...getting an older version to save money.
Is Examkrackers good enough for Oranic Chem and the Math? I will be taking Organic 1 in fall and Calculus next spring, so I probably won't be ready for the August or October PCATs. Are there any books that go over the basic concepts for those who haven't taken the classes yet?

I don't think reading the textbooks is a good idea...
Because the PCAT is a standardized test...meaning they have specific things that are going to be on the test....they are not going to cover every single topic from your classes...
Reading the textbooks seems like overkill to me...plus I doubt you will remember everything...especially if you are taking the June test...

Just wanted to ask again, but by studying the Kaplan, can I get the necessary knowledge and concepts to be successful on the PCAT?
I will be taking upper-level classes next academic year, including Organic I and Calculus in the Fall, but I want to apply to pharm school early and take the PCAT before I complete the Fall term.

One way to find out would be to study using Kaplan, and then take the full length test from Harcourt. That would give you an idea whether your study has prepared you for the PCAT or not.

I brought the 2007 Kaplan on Amazon for 10 bucks.
I bought several PCAT books and by far the best one was the Kaplan book. The only downside I saw to Kaplan was that it didn't adequately cover the OChem I saw on the PCAT, so I would suggest using a supplemental source for OChem. I was working full-time and going to school and decided to take the PCAT at a very late date, so I basically crammed for 3 days with the Kaplan book and got a 96. I don't recommend cramming like that...luck definitely played a hand for me, but that book saved my butt!

I agree with this poster...the Kaplan book is very weak on the O Chem stuff, but then again I didn't think there were a terrible amount of O Chem questions anyway. Definitely look elsewhere for O Chem help though.
I took the PCAT last janurary and i did well in biology (93%) well in verbal (87%) and I got 4.0 in both of the writing sections (conventions of language and problem solving). But, i BOMBED the chemistry (it has been over a year since i had any chem). I studied from an older kaplan PCAT book. This time i'm getting another book for the chemistry portion.

I'm selling the Examcrackers MCAT Complete Study Package 7th Edition, which includes Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Verbal Reasoning and Mathematical Techniques for $85! It's new, never been used, but it's just opened.
It arrived too late for last year's PCAT exam but I flipped through them and it appeared to condensed a lot of the material. You could do a search and people rave about these books to prep for both the MCAT and PCAT exams.

Currently i am using the kaplan book which i would recommend purchasing. I am using it in conjunction with the PCAT destroyer which is a pretty solid book in my opinion some good insights and explanations. For the verbal i would suggest using the exam crackers guide it is relatively cheap and is a great review. I am also using the GRE book to help tune up my vocabulary. If anyone has different suggestion please PM i am taking my PCAT in august.

It all depends on what classes you are planning to take and how you can revolve them around work. Obviously i would not advise to take organic or an intensive course while trying to study for the PCAT. As mentioned in the post i have listed the study guide that i am using to study for the PCAT which i am planning to take in August. The sources i have listed are pretty rock solid the kaplan has a good overview of the material while the PCAT destroyer has a more intensive lineup of problems. The exam crackers guide is an excellent source for the verbal part. Good Luck!
