I'm loving the post. This thread has lowered my anxiety to some extent. Thank you!:thumbup:

Maybe the enrollee is a 4.0 student who, on the day of the DAT, had a hangover from too much moonshine the night before.

For the record, I'm sure this thread is at least borderline copyright infringement.

Anyways, I bought the book and have had two problems with these figures:
1) how can you get a decimal on the DAT (talking about ranges and medians here - it shouldn't be possible)?
2) there is no way that so many schools have identical AA and PA ranges, especially when even the seemingly impossible decimal scores match

Does anybody have any sort of an explanation for these, or does the ADEA just have problems making charts?

AA is an average of 5 sections so it could have an even decimal, though I do see at least one 0.9 in there.

Median can be a decimal but since we're dealing with integer scores only on PAT and TS, it could only be a 0.5.

And what year are these for? Are these for the class of 2011? If so I know that the ranges for SB are not correct at all. Several people in my class scored above 22 AA for instance. In fact, if the range goes up to 22, how are the median and mean 22?

I'd like to know the answer to above as well.

BTW, nice thread, OP!

With ~1 mil entries that the schools handle for the ~110K applications, ~10K entries submitted to ADEA and entered by ADEA, not to mention the limited op entries, there is plenty of room for incorrect entries. As for the odd decimals, maybe the schools decided to give extra points to those who took the "harder" versions of the DAT. At any rate, for some on SDN knowing the lower limit of the range would be more important than knowing the upper limit. The data are purported to be for the 2011 class.

Ah.. I see.. but how would they decide if an applicant took the "harder" version? I think incorrect entries make more sense.

BTW, Do you happen to have access to range of GPA for each school as well?
That would be really helpful! Thanks!:D

Every now and then someone will throw in a comment about copyright infringement apparently, if for no other reason, for dramatic effect. So, "for the record",

1. tables given in ADEA Guide were not copied
2. the information was compiled to create a new table
3. there is no monetary gain from the info provided

and from http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

Under "fair use" doctrine:

"Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered “fair,” such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair:

1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
3. amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

.....
Copyright protects the particular way an author has expressed himself; it does not extend to any ideas, systems, or factual information conveyed in the work."

Do you compile these tables yourself? It must be a pain... thank you for doing this.

Even with these tables on SDN, I would still recommend buying the ADEA guide. It's a great quick reference tool for DS stats.

The "harder" remark was facetious. Some have been arguing that some versions of the DAT were harder than others and that the DAT has gotten harder the past year.

Someone got into Howard with a 12?

Wow... that's nuts

How can any "school" have an AA of below 16. It is pathetic taht meharry and pp have AA of 15.8 and 15.3 respectively. It doesnt take much talent to get a 15 that means that you get most of the questions in each section wrong. I dont understand how they are allowed to have such low standards. Whats the point in the DAT, screw up and yu can just go to one of those schools. 4 years later you have the same title as someone who worked like a dog for four years.

Well, it's easy to get in (as a minority), but no one said it was easy to graduate. Who knows, it may be as didactically and clinically vigorous as any other dental program in the country, and maybe a bunch of people end up dropping out because of the disparity, we don't know that. And besides, I'm sure those schools took the best students they could, and rejected hundreds with lower scores than that lol.

I am not judging by its cover, I am judging by its aceptance standards. If it has such low standards, then how can such an institution be accredited.

Because they meet the accreditation standards which have nothing to do with DAT scores.

Anyway to check if these ranges are absolute or if they're interquartile ranges?

Ranges can't be absolute because there are decimals.
Ranges can't be interquartile because some have ridiculously high and/or low 25th and 75th percentiles.
