wow i wish i had an offer from them...
RAK you have to go there :)

Why should that factor in to your decision as to which school to go to???

in terms of specializing, especially with p/f systems popping up everywhere, reputation counts for a lot. UConn has an amazing rep, and this just backs it up even more... just my opinion tho

Uconn has an excellent reputation, as does many other schools. Just on the east coast there are like 6 schools with rediculously good reputations. (Harvard, Penn, Columbia, Uconn, Stonybrook, UNC). I dont think this validates Uconn any more or makes it any better of a school.

Ehh better than if it failed

None of those schools will ever fail. This accredidation stupidity is mostly paperwork, its not like it has much to do with how well the facilities are constructed or how good of a school it is, or even how well it is run.

personally, i think that it says a lot. it is a completely objective evaluation by professionals in the field saying that it is a great school... saying that what the schools has now is top notch. the thing about accreditation scoring is that it is completely standardized by professionals who actually see and evaluate all of the dental programs in the US. outstanding marks by curriculum specialists, and professors and professionals in the field is validation that the school has an excellent program... and legitimately, in all respects.

actually you are sorely wrong. accreditation is much more than that. they look at all aspects of the school. science curriculum, clinical curriculum, facilities, faculty, etc. if it wasn't such a big deal, schools wouldnt spend months preparing for their accreditation visits - and it wouldnt even exist.

and personally, to me pristine facilities dont mean crap. if you dont have the faculty and curriculum to back it up then it means nothing.

I agree with RAK. I think it says a lot about any school. If it wasn't a big deal than every school would get perfect / close to perfect.

Congrats to UCONN and anyone who got in!

I actaully worked on the accredidation process for the Residency where i Shadowed. It is once every seven years I think and all that it was, was a simple "inspection" and then you have to submit this like 300 page document that has all this crap that really is pointless. That is where almost all deductions come from. There really isnt much value in the ccredidation thing. Unless the acredidation processes are different for residency programs and Dental schools, bvelieve me, the whole thing is a meaningless pointless waste of time and no conclusions should be drawn from that.

I don't believe that. I know schools have been put on probation for not passing the process..... I have a friend at GW med school and they are currently under probation b/c they didn't pass it.......

Reasons such as the library isn't up to par...inadequate study space past 12pm... some faculty issues...etc.... But clearly its not just a pointless inspection. Sounds like minor things but they felt the need to have the school fix their issues.

Getting a perfect sounds pretty dam*awesome to me

So it can't just be all meaningless "crap".....

I really don't think they do it just for...... fun.

...you obviously think that i have no idea what i'm talking about... believe me i do.

i didnt make this post to bash other schools... as you can see no where did i say anything about other schools. i was just posting the information to let people know where UConn stands. no need to get defensive.. just chill.

are you going to UCONN?

sounds like klutzy has something against UConn

Absolutely not, I think Uconn is an unbelievable school, however that accredidation thing I do absolutely think is rubbish. I loved Uconn on my interview, loved there facilities, faculty, class size, and neighborhood. Their reputation is impeccable. However for someone to incorporate that stupid acredidation thing into their decision on where to go to school is ludicrous. However I absolutely have nothing against Uconn and you will not find one negative word about Uconn ion any of my posts. Uconn is an absolutely amazing school.

who's incorporating it into their decision on where to go to school?? did someone say that??

Ludicrous??? Ok Mr. know-it-all. I think that's a little too extreme, buddy. People are entitled to use whatever information they deem necessary to make what they believe is their best or right decision. If that extra piece of info is important enough for somebody, then so be it. You don't have to put someone down for it. Maybe the residency accreditation at the school that you helped out was so called worthless but it may be different and important for dental school.

Seems like pbrooks is incorporating this into his decision.

i would incorporate it into my decision process if i had an offer there. i dont think that it means everything, but it certainly accounts for something, and could be used to help those that are deciding between schools

exactly, i didnt realize my comment would be used later for ammunition against you..
so many threads on here just turn into arguments, its absurd

How did this thread even turn into an argument, i dont get it. What did I say wrong.

i just think sometimes people's word choice is quite strong and gives the wrong impression, even if they didn't mean it a particular way.

klutzy jealous that UConn didn't accept ya?

So, does this make UConn the best dental school in the U, S, and A?:laugh::laugh::laugh:

klutzy jealous that UConn didn't accept ya?

Not at all, I always wanted to go to Stonybrook so oce I got accepted there the rest was gravy.

So why haven't you withdrawn your application to all the other schools? Do you still plan on interviewing? Is StonyBrook you real first choice or your first choice in lieu of schools like Harvard?

Is it just me, or does klutzy come out as being fairly antagonistic in a fair amount of posts around here? It's great you are willing to offer so much imput, but cut back on the negativity.

Not to be negative toward the OP, but klutzy's comment rings true to me. I go to a big state school, and most periodic evaluative/regulatory things we use here are incredibly inefficient. They were created for good reasons but now they just get in the way. Whatever scores result from the process are pretty meaningless.

i think we've all pretty much decided that you're wrong...

I hate to burst your bubble, but NYU got a "perfect" Accreditation back in 2004. I think that was the year my friend that went there forwarded me the email his dean sent to the class.

I won't mention my school, but I don't think they'll come close :)
