OK classmates - Lets get this party started! WoooHooo!

I don't see an official class thread yet, so this is it!!

All you awesome people out there who are the UWSOM class of 2013, CONGRATULATIONS and WELCOME!! I can't wait to meet you all in Seattle in 2010! Anyone else a little excited? I know I am.

I am still reeling from the news. Its going to take some time for me to get use to having some certaintity in my life. I have been chasing this dream full-time for four years now and my life revolved around getting into medical school. So, now that I am here...

Its going to be an adjustment, albeit a freaking fantastic one!

BTW, I started an Alaska WWAMI E2009 group on Facebook. If you will be spending your first year in Anchorage please join the group!😍

Congrats!!! You did it!

Are we the only ones so far? There must be others from the other states!

Come on people now...smile on your brother (and sister!) - everybody get together, and give us some love!
🙂😍:xf:😛:luck::clap::claps::banana::biglove:

YEA!

hey guys!

congrats to everyone! i have never felt SO relieved in my life. i too have spent the last three years with nothing but pre-med on the mind. im excited to spend sometime unwinding before the craziness begins again.

Just joining the party! You guys know anything about the PDA requirements? I am in desperate need of a new phone as my current one only works when open at a 45' and I was considering a PDA/phone.

Welcome AuDggr and jshlyank, and congratulations!

Where are you located?

I don't know a thing about the PDA requirement, I'll look into that.

are we supposed to have a PDA? i thought only a laptop was required.

anyway, i have an iphone and i love it...

i'm originally from back east but have been in Seattle for 7 years now (uw for undergrad and post-bacc).

Thanks! I did some asking around and we are supposed to have a PDA, but it's not an absolutely necessary thing from the start (it plays a bigger role during year 3 and 4). Good news for the iphone hipsters because epocrates software is now available for your phone.

I know this may be a bit premature, but anyone out there in cyberspace considering getting Husky football season tickets? (insert joke about last year's record here) They go on sale April 17th for $112.

Hey UWSOM Class of 2013!

Woohoo! Can you believe we made it? I just found out a few days ago that I was accepted, and I am still rubbing my eyes, pinching myself, and hoping this isn't some really crazy dream.

What did you all do after you found out that you were in? I'm so excited, I can barely sleep! 😀

Have any of you thought about applying for the prematriculation program? I've been away from full time undergraduate work for a long time, and after looking at the old first year schedules, am wondering if this program would be a good way to ease the shock of getting back into the swing of studying?

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and congrats! I can't wait to meet you all come orientation time, or when we all join up in Seattle come 2010.

Hey, I was looking at that premat program too?? It looks like it would be pretty cool, except I don't know how easy it would be to find somewhere to live for 5 weeks and then head back to WY. Anyway, congrats!

Ouch, I didn't think about the housing issue. Finding housing for 5 weeks will definitely be difficult for out of area students. 😕

I guess I have it easy because I live in the area, though I'm still eagerly/nervously waiting to find out if I'm going to have to yank up my roots and move to Spokane/Pullman. It is a shame that the school hasn't prearranged a place for students attending the program to crash for the 5 weeks. You could always contact OMCA and see if they have any ideas/hints for finding a temporary sublet or housing within the university system?

I've only heard good things about the program from former premat students. There is a little bit of mentoring involved (to UW summer program students) as part and parcel of the program, but everyone seems to enjoy that aspect of the premat course. I like the idea of being able to take histology early, become acquainted with the school, and still have a month to kick back and relax before the start of fall classes. Sounds like a win-win situation to me. 😎

Good luck to you, (congrats also!) and I look forward to meeting you this summer, or in 2010!

dang the Alaska WWAMI facebook group it so cool!! haha... how come I'm the only wyo person who ever posts here 🙁

Congratulations USN2DOC, LaTortuga, and mtnman12 !!!!!!

Way to go you all!!

Ok guys...call me paranoid but...did we have to put down a deposit for our spot?? I didn't see anything anywhere about one.

I didn't see anything about $ either. I did fill out an offer acceptance form and mailed it back stating my "firm acceptance".

To me it seems like the "deposit" is the money you pay for your background check. So $69, not bad at all. Unless I'm missing something too.

What I keep wondering is how much tuition will be? Have any of your states informed you on this yet? I went and asked and she told me Wyoming tuition will probably be going up, but who knows how much.

Hi Everyone!

I just got accepted today, so I'm gonna be hanging out here now!

Hey everyone- I just got my acceptance e-mail yesterday. I'm still kind of feeling numb. I suppose it's so easy to get wrapped up in the whole process of getting into med school, that when it actually happens I am still totally blown away. Anyhow, I am a an Everett native (I now live in Seattle). If anyone has questions about housing or the UW (I am currently an employee at the department of medicine), let me know. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great first year.

Congrats! I totally know how you feel. I feel like I've worked so long to get here, that now that it has happened, I'm lost....It'll take a while to adjust I guess. But yay!

Congrats to all of the newly accepted people! 😎 Way to go!

Hey- have any of you guys gotten your stuff in the mail after sending in your acceptance thingy? Just wondering how long it took, the website says they started sending student ID numbers so you can get a log in and email in February.

I just got mine two days ago, so roughly 3 weeks after my acceptance.

Do you mind if I ask how long it took from the day you interviewed until the day you got your acceptance email? Thanks!

Well in my case - it was a WWAMI group interview, so I interviewed on a Wednesday and then the physician who interviewed me called at 6 P.M. on Friday, probably just after the EXCOM meeting. The actual email from UW then came the following Monday around 1 P.M.

I just sent in my background check form today, but I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet. I got the acceptance email last Thursday. How long did it take you to get something in the mail?

Wow mtnman, talk about a quick turn around from interview date to acceptance! 🙂 My timetable was similar, but slightly longer. I interviewed on a thursday, and was accepted 8 days later on the following friday. I got a call on friday and an e-mail on tuesday.

I didn't get anything in the mail confirming receipt of my background check from UWSOM ... all I got was a copy of my report from verified credentials along with the coverletter saying that it was sent to the admissions office.

Shortly after you turn in the acceptance form (found in the welcome packet that comes roughly a week after the initial acceptance e-mail ... at least, that's how long it took for me), you should get a snail mail enrollment confirmation along with your student number.

Has anybody heard anything back from the financial aid office or 1st year site selection people? After a flurry of e-mails and prospective student e-mails ... the trail has gone eerily quiet and cold. 😕

I got accepted late last month to Alaska WWAMI! 🙂 Congrats to everyone!
I'm excited to meet all the non-Alaskans in 2010!

Haha that's really neat thanks for sharing! Also looks kinda freaky like NFL draft day haha. Hope all is well for you too!!

Hello, everyone. This is my first time writing on this and I'm glad someone started this group. I didn't interview until March 16th and found out the beginning of the following week that I was in. It took so long to get an interview that I expected the opposite but I couldn't be more thrilled. I am still waiting on my official acceptance packet, too, and have to do the criminal background check this week. I'll be spending the first year in Washington, preferably in Seattle since my family and friends are there.

Hey everyone...anybody have details on when site selections will happen? In different communications with UW I've heard beginning of April and by the end of April. Can't happen soon enough!

This is great thanks for creating a UW thread!

btw did anyone receive the UW scholarship info on their mail yet?

Just found out today they are sending me to Spokane and I live conveniently in Seattle. Anyone else going to Spokane? Why do they make us move all the way there anyways?

I haven't gotten any scholarship info yet. I got the email asking if I needed to update info, so imagine they should send it out in the mail soon. Also got my financial aide package, aka 31k in pure loans, haha. Sucks compared to undergrad when i got grants.

Oh, and I also got WWAMI'd to Spokane. Why do they do it? Who knows! Although I know Stella said its not totally a random selection, but they try to get you in your top two choices....I really don't know how one person would get seattle over another. Oh well, we're going to med school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀😀

Oh, and where is everyone around here???? This place is dead!

doc h -

we are all at the facebook site!

I'm actually in the facebook group too =)

Call me old fashioned, but I just like to keep some things more anonymous, so I prefer SDN for some topics. Especially since our facebook group is public...which perhaps we could consider changing

Did you guys find out by e-mail or snail mail what your 1st year site is?

i just found out today that i'm in! i guess i will have to wait to find out what campus i'll be at though.

does anyone know how long we need to wait to get our financial aid packages?

Congrats!! Pretty soon (a week or two for me) you'll get a letter that lets you set up your "myuw" account, and then your financial aid package will come out sometime after that. It probably varies, but they have started giving them out already. For me it was about 2 months after acceptance - but I would assume much sooner for you. Good job!!!

just found out i was WWAMI'd to Spokane too, not my first choice as I live in Seattle but i'm just happy i'm in!

anyone else from Seattle moving to Spokane in the fall?

Congrats to all! I'll be in seattle first year, and I can't wait to meet everyone! Looks like the facebook group has had one bbq and is planning another, so maybe i'll see you sooner than later...

Congratulations to everyone! Hey, does anyone know when the UW insurance plan coverage starts?
