Hi--

UPENN (full tuition merit scholarship) vs. Harvard vs. UCSF. Which would you choose? (This isn't a hypothetical situation; my friend is actually fortunate enough to have this choice.) Sure, it's a win-win-win situation, but how would you make this decision?

🙄
hint: whichever way you decide, it probably doesn't involve asking people here with your first post, even if it's for your "friend."

My gut reaction... I didn't think Ivy Leagues gave merit scholarships... am I wrong?

jt--
no, penn does give merit scholarships. i think they're the only ivy med school that does. in response to the op, i don't see how anyone could turn down a full scholarship to penn.

He was accepted to Harvard, UPenn, UCSF, Mayo, and all the top 10 schools he applied...he has some full paid at some places, but he does not want to let go of any of them...is there a way to go to each school for like 1 month and enroll in all top10 schools? I know it's a very difficult problem here...😀

Seriously, I won't hate on your acceptances. I would not pass over a debt-free top med school education, not even for Harvard and over 150,000 debt, for a degree to say Harvard. Good luck for "your friend."

That reminds me. I have a "friend" who has a similar "problem." You see, he's got three cars, a bentley, and H2, and an Escalade. Of course, all three have the requisite Play-Station 2's, 20's, mini-bars, and approptiate ground effects and stereo systems. Here's my "friend's" quandary. He can't decide which car should be electroplated in gold should and which be chromed out. He also can't decide whether he wants gold teeth, or gold teeth with diamonds. Please help my "friend" with this awful onus! Thanks!

I'll second that. There are very few reasons I can think of where you should pass up Free Tuition at a school like UPenn. Actually I can think of 2: family reasons against relocating to philly and you're rich.

LOL, you say it best SP.

If it's for real, tell yer 'friend' choose anything but Harvard, cuz I wouldn't want someone who couldn't make decisions for himself in my class.

Yeah, the rest of the ivy schools at most, pay half tuition or at least the ones I was accepted too. UPenn seems to be the only one that pays full.

go to Penn - free med school from a top 5? you'd be crazy to pass that up.
while harvard definately sounds good, Penn's match list is nevertheless incredible. Their facilities are very nice and the clinical opportunities seem excellent. I've heard nothing but rave reviews about UCSF as well - but for me it all boils down to money.
you or your friend has a chance to save some serious dough - to the tune of $700/month for 30 years 😱 or >$1K/month for 10 years.
honestly i would think the answer would be self-evident 😉

Definitely the funniest post I have ever read!!!

On a serious note:
bentley- gold
H2- chrome
Escalade-chrome

Teeth- Go with the ice!!!😀

I hope he can make the right decision and I am glad you asked for him, what a great friend.

LeBron said he was bored with the Escalade and was going to give it to MJ. So I'd say chrome on the H2.

I tell you. It's so hard to come up with inventive ways of flaunting your wealth and success with out seeming to arrogant and ostentatious. Thank you all for you insightful comments. My "friend" will appreciate it.

Now, what are your thoughts on emerald encrusted hovercrafts?

Send him to Harvard.

I am an MS2 at Penn. He/she would be a complete fool to turn down a full ride here in favor of another school. We will provide him with a wonderful education, he will have a lot of fun, and he will come out way way ahead money wise. It ends up being an incredible amount of money once you calculate it out including interest and basing it on after-tax income. This is a complete no-brainer unless he/she is somehow geographically constrained.
