Hello everyone,

I am confusing about one question. is there any difference between volunteer and paid dental jobs for dental schools? thx

Yeah, one pays and the other doesnt. dont see where the confusion is? A job means that you worked for money while gaining valuable experience. Volunteering means that you gave up some of your own time for the benefit of others (also while gaining valuable experience).
Both are positives but I would think that the volunteering would be seen as more of a postive since it shows more of your qualities.

hello,

thx for the reply. i acutally worry about if dental schools expect us to have more volunteering experiences than paid experiences. I techniqically have zeron volunteering experience in dentistry field, but in others, like some community services. however, i do have like 4 years paid dental experience in a dental office, but believe me, that pay rate makes almost no difference for me to be a volunteer in that office, $9/hr, once a week, and plus I need to drive 45 miles to get there. all the money I could possiblely make from da office went to pay my gas...

And who made the decision to take the job?

my point is, making money is not my purpose, I really dont even care about that. I wanted to be a volunteer over there, and the reason why he paid me because he knew that I need to have at least 50 mins driving. he is nice dentist, he understands well how hard the processes are for these pre-dental students to go through. so, you got my point my friend?

Given that you were just covered on travel expenses, I don't think it would be dishonest to call it a volunteer experience, as long as you stipulate that your travel expenses were reimbursed.

$9/hr is a heck of a lot more than a McD wage but if you believe that is "volunteering" there is no argument. It is likely that uncle S got more than what you spent on gas unless you were driving a semi.
