I just wonder that so far only two MSTP applicants got accepted vs. probably more than 1000 regular MD applicants accepted if you look at SDN posts. Looks MSTP acceptances are tempted to be late. Can anyone give your thoughts.

I think we're such a small applicant pool it's tough to preserve our anonymity...I got my first acceptance last Friday, but I didn't post it because the school actually told us at our interview that they were only accepting one or two people from the first interview group. I would like to preserve some semblance of anonymity so I was going to put it down much later in the cycle when they would have given out more acceptances. I think that's part of why there aren't more posts on this thread.

agreed, and wouldn't you also say that many md/phd committees sit somewhere between md (starts interviewing/accepting earlier) and phd (muuch later), which could come in to play. it's really a separate beast from md, so it just seems like a bit of a different process with a different timeline

If you guys don't mind, could we start something like this (since this is anonymous and all):

http://www.physicsgre.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1847

You would list schools you applied to and mark whether you got accepted or rejected. And of course list your GPA and MCAT.

I'm applying next year, so I'm curious at what med schools look for at least on the surface.

We have something similar called MDapplicants.com. When you see people who have a profile number link right under their name, that's their profile. (For example, mine says "profile 17488" right under "premedical." (Though I don't have any schools listed yet because I'm lazy...just my stats and a short profile.) Most people will put down a short profile with GPA and MCAT and what schools they applied to and what the outcome was.

Congrats, Jeron! May I ask how did Rochester let you know?

Congrats, Jeron! May I ask how did Rochester let you know?

Dr. O'Bannion called me. He said that they would be meeting to discuss more candidates over the next week or two, so most decisions won't be made until then.

Congrats MSTPlease!!!! I interviewed for Sinai the same days you did, but I was rejected, unfortunately. I really really wanted to go there too. I hope you have a great experience if you choose to go there...it seemed like an amazing program! :)

I just received my first acceptance (yay!), which I will not post just now for anonymity reasons. It was communicated to me by email. It asks for a response "asap", but gives a deadline in the spring.

I realized that I have no idea what the etiquette is for email offers... are you guys just not responding until you are saying yes or no to the program (which will obviously be months from now), or are you sending a "thanks, I'm really excited" email without making any sort of commitment?

The etiquette is that you accept their acceptance. You accept as many acceptances as you receive. Then at some future date (typically May 15, but some schools demand April 15 or some other date), you have to only hold one acceptance.

At that point you can still come off the waitlist elsewhere, and you'll have two weeks to decide which acceptance you want to keep.

So when I got mine (it also came via email) I called and just told them that I was really excited and that I would let them know when I'd made a decision. Was that essentially the same thing as accepting the acceptance or am I supposed to do something else?

Currently doing a comical celebratory jig...

No, I think you're totally fine. The point is to thank them and let them know that you're interested in attending their program, even if you can't commit yet.

Hey, thanks Lady Lightning! I'll check it out. Sorry for the late response, I've been kinda of busy with classes/research.

Anyone hear from Cornell? Their website says Admissions decisions were made today... I think in the past they've called with acceptances and done rejections by snail mail.

Yes today was supposed to be the day when they call people who were accepted. I didn't hear either, so I am assuming waitlist/rejection. Of course, until we get confirmation that someone did hear from them, we can always vainly hope they are just behind schedule ;).

I also didn't hear from them. But I know someone who got their acceptance. They were pretty clear that they would call everyone today, pretty rude that they didn't. I heard from last year that they said the same thing but didn't call everyone. Oh well. :/

Same boat as you guys...

You would think that more folks from SDN would have heard, especially if they were giving out ~half the interviewees acceptances. What are the odds that all six of the people who interviewed from here all didnt make the cut? :D

Tri-I was pretty animate about letting everyone know on the 9th. More waiting I guess.

I didn't get a call today either.

I did hear from Cornell today. I received an email at about 1pm telling me to call the office, and they told me of my acceptance over the phone. :D

I'm not sure what this means for you folks who haven't heard yet. It probably takes some time for Ruth Gotian to speak to everyone personally, so perhaps they haven't had time to contact everyone. In fact, they haven't yet sent out the official email with all the info (you know, conditions of acceptence, etc.), so that implies they're still in the middle of the process. I also have a friend who is a very competitive applicant (and did research in a top lab at SKI) who hasn't heard anything yet... take that as you may.

Finally, you gotta figure that they only accept 20-30 people initially, just to be safe, and the rest come off the waitlist. So I'm still optimistic for you guys... good luck!

So what do you guys plan to do about Cornell?
Should we keep waiting to hear from them, or just call them today?

So what do you guys plan to do about Cornell?
Should we keep waiting to hear from them, or just call them today?

I'm don't know what they said on 11/20, but I'm pretty sure that on 10/30 they said that only those people who were accepted would get a phone call, and everyone else would get snail mail. So, I plan on waiting for something (ie a wait-list or rejection) in the mail. If I don't get anything in a week then I might call.

My status also says a letter was mailed to me.
I called the office and they said that they could not tell me my status, and that the letters went out today (Dec. 10th).
I asked if all students got letters, they said "most student got letters." I am assuming this means most students were rejected and got letters of rejection, but we'll find out for sure tomorrow or more likely saturday.
