I've been accepted and I'm lean towards attending, but still trying to decide for sure:

What did you think of the school? Location? Faculty?

😀 sent my deposit! got my official letter about 1 week after AADSAS status changed to offer made, and a few days later got an email with login instructions to the student registration site.
Congratulation on making a good choice. LLU truly has impressive dental program to offer ...
For the lucky ones who were accepted...
What were your essay questions? Who did you interview with and what were the questions. Sorry for blasting questions, but are you SDA too?
I am SDA and I was wondering how much of a preference we get, if any.
Thanks so much guys.
PM me if you want to be more anonymous.

Lamcifer, it is no secret that you receive preference for admission if you are SDA. I wish the best for you and hope to see you here next fall.

Hi Dr. Mitchell,
How much of a preference do we get? I am doing a lot of research and really want to attend LLU School of Dentistry in the fall. Do you know what the chances are if I have been granted an interview? In a previous post, you state that 1/6 SDAs are accepted- I am assuming all SDAs who apply, but I am curious how many SDAs interviewed were accepted.
Thank you kindly for your understanding and I look forward to your reply.

Those specific stats are not available to me, the 1 in 6 is vs the approximately 1 in 40 odds that non SDA's face. As far as how much of a preference that is not measurable each candidate is reviewed individually. But in the hypothetical situation that 2 equal candidates are vying for the final position in the class, the SDA would get the nod.

I have been accepted to LLU and was very impressed so I am leaning toward sending in my deposit. However, I am concerned about the school closing for Friday night and Saturday because I am LDS (mormon) and will miss out on the reviews and study groups that happen on Sunday as well. Is this an issue for other non-SDA students?

nice name, lol...
i am also non SDA. im not sure about your question though... so yes, the school is closed on friday and sat so i assume that there would be no review sessions scheduled anyways? and if there were, then you should be able to attend, right? so that means that you would only miss out on sunday study sessions, which i am sure you can make up yourself, right? worse comes to worse, you could ask a friend to take notes or tape record the audio, although i think it is all conditional on whether there ARE sunday study sessions at all, right?
tell me if im not getting it right...
Thanks for the feedback. Eliwoohoo, I think that you're getting it right. The reason why I am nervous is because my Uncle is a dentist and he told me he did most of his studying of the cadavers for anatomy on Saturday and advised against LLU for this reason. If it is a non-issue for students than I will be be sending in my deposit!

There have been many LDS graduates from Loma Linda over the years, they have a history of doing very well at LLU and fitting in very well. I hope to see you here. Dr. Mitchell
just got the invite for the open house... anyone planning on going? or perhaps better yet, has anyone ever been to one? was it helpful? its not super convenient for me to make it all the way down to the LLU campus, so im debating whether its worth me making the trek.
Do you guys know when is the deposit deadline for LLU? Is it 45 days from acceptance like other schools?
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but I haven't received any specific information about putting in deposit and its due date.

chiming in with some stuff from experience:
1) in my class, I think it was about 1 in 3, possibly fewer, of SDA applicants got in.
2) as Dr. Mitchell said, LDS students have typically done well. I would venture to say that LDS students have a very visible presence at the school.
3) honestly, there aren't a whole lot of review sessions scheduled for sundays.

Hey LemonCurry,
I was wondering if you could comment on the basic science teaching staff. Do you think the pedagogy at LLUSD is strong? Are professors genuinely concerned for student learning and now their students personally? I'm sure school will be tough, but do you think they try to make it as comfortable as is possible? Thanks!
Blessings,
Eric

Everyone there is extremely nice and generous. I'm sure that our future classmates will be understanding if we don't participate on a Sunday night study group because of our beliefs. It will all work out in the end and hey, you've been accepted, you're going to be a dentist... by the way, they actually have quite an LDS community there.. There are even a few LDS professors in the dental program too.
Eric,
The basic science professors are a good bunch and are all concerned about their students. Some of them are easier to learn from than others, but I never really felt any sort of distance or gap between professors and students.
As far as making it as comfortable as possible: none of the teachers go into the class with the attitude that they are going to make it harder than it needs to be. Some do a better job of making difficult subjects a bit easier, but none of the basic science classes are cake walks.

SDA stands for Seventh-Day Adventist, it is the religious denomination that founded (100 years ago) and oversees Loma Linda University.
they called you? I thought it was only through aadsas update and mail later.
yeah, I didn't think they did either, but I had my cell phone on silent, and when I was about to go to bed I just so happened to check it and found a message from the admissions office on there! Man that made my weekend!

Congrats! I think you got my spot. I just told them that I was going elsewhere two days ago...
Didn't get a call from LLU...guess I got passed over 🙁🙁

No I wouldn't go there at this point, I think the ones who got calls were students who have been accepted at other schools also but had expressed a preference for Loma Linda 🙂.

odds are that you will see your aadsas update with "offer made" and then get a snail mail letter. That's how it was for me 2 cycles ago.

Wow that was a quick turnaround. Congrats!
Aww your lucky. Im hoping to get in this year too.

Any accepted females interested in living off campus for a year starting this August? You will have your own room right away and the rent will be slightly cheaper than living in a single on campus. The apartment I'm looking at is a block away from campus too (about 5-10 min walk to school). If you're interested, PM me. Thanks
So I started a facebook group for LLUSD C/O 2014. You should be able to find it by searching "Loma Linda 2014". Start joining students!
