Congrats to all those that have been accepted! 😀 Now that the interview season is winding down, I decided to make this thread for those of you out there that have decided to join the Bluejay doctor family! If you have any questions about student life, Omaha life, or the new Phoenix track, don't hesitate to ask!

I'm pretty sure I'll be going here next year. I requested Phoenix for MS3-4. Loved the school...perfect fit for me

I can't wait to meet everyone this summer!

me too! where is everyone from?
I'm from Miami, and went to the University of South Florida for undergrad

Hey all. I'm from Montana. Can't wait to finally start!

I'm from New Jersey and went to Boston College....so I'm coming from pretty far away as well, but I won't have to deal with quite as drastic of a temperature change as you!

Has anyone else noticed a discrepancy between the cost of attendance of 67k as per the interview presentation vs the 54k found on the NEST website?

i might be looking in a different spot than you, but when i'm under financial aid on the nest site and click on financial aid status, the coa that comes up for me is $69,159....speaking of which i better fill out my fafsa asap haha

I wonder what a kidney goes for these days...
I called up the office and they corrected the website the other day. For a moment, I actually thought Creighton was reasonably priced.

Has anyone thought or does anyone know.. what the pro/cons of doing 3rd/4th year at Phoenix instead of Omaha - besides location?

I got the impression phx was better for neurosciences.

Yeah, I've been thinking about the same thing. Here are a couple sites that were mildly helpful:

http://medschool.creighton.edu/fileadmin/user/medicine/news/St_Joe_Phoenix/CUSOM_and_SJHMC.pdf

http://medschool.creighton.edu/fileadmin/user/medicine/news/St_Joe_Phoenix/About_SJHMC.pdf

I'm thinking the difference will come down to the quality of physician-educators. It sounds like St. Josephs has been a teaching hospital for a while though, so having medical students around won't be anything new. Both facilities have their own specialties, which was shown on the back of that brochure in the acceptance packet.

Do you think you'd have a greater opportunity to explore more areas of medicine in Omaha than Phoenix?

I'm going to Creighton with the 'rents soon to take another look at the school and I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it's typical to meet with finanicial aid to talk about all the loans and stuff that are available. Or are we just supposed to wait until the fall?
Thanks and I can't wait to meet everyone!!!!!!

Question for everyone (who is OOS)
When are you moving to Omaha???
Thanks

Great question. I'm not sure about that one myself. Did anyone else get a word document with advice for the first year? I know I did, but it disappeared. It would be great if someone could email it to me. PM me and I'll give you my email. Thanks.

I haven't gotten any info other than a recent letter from the financial aid office saying I can take the max amount of federal loans out hah....I would love if someone could e-mail me that document as well....I am coming from NJ and seriously need to start looking for apartments (everyone on the facebook page is posting condos/houses to buy but I definitely need to rent)...if anyone find some good locations for renting or a website with some good info could you post it up here/in the facebook page?

I found good places at hoffmanrealties.com. The one bed. apartments are pretty cheap and really close to school (like 2 min. and they are on the creighton shuttle route) I think one of the places includes internet and cable... The lady in charge is pretty nice..
look at "hillside court" and "the carlisle" 🙂

Check out "River Park" and "Midtown crossing" for apartments. They are really nice and close to school. You can find cheaper apartments/houses for sure, but they will usually be in a sketchy neighborhood or pretty far from campus. Those two apartment buildings are really, really popular with Creighton grad students. A lot of people live down in the old market, but I thought most of those places weren't nearly as nice as the other two and were at least as expensive.

Also, the first year advice document would be really nice if someone wanted to post that.

That's the one, thanks!

As things wind down and move past D-day, aka May 15, the overall class picture will become more clear. The dust won't settle completely for some time, but for those of you that have already decided on Creighton, I'll do my best to answer any questions you have about the transition to Omaha.

In case you're wondering what's going on with the current students, M4s went through hooding last night, have senior banquet tonight, and will officially be MDs tomorrow once graduation is over. M3s have a month and a half to go on their final rotations, then it's a two week break before starting M4 year. M2s are done with classes and are all probably buried somewhere in the depths of the libraries/coffee shops/favorite study spots as they prepare for Step 1 next month. And finally, the M1s just finished Neuro and are officially beginning the last full summer break of their lives. Many are going on Project Cura trips, some of which leave as soon as next week.

The current M4s had a great match, so if you're wondering what they're doing and where they're going, here's the link: Class of 2010 Match List

The school will begin renovations over the next month so that they can fit your class. That means converting the current lounge into two more small group rooms, extending the computer lab to accommodate a few more rows, and turning what was the 6th floor admissions office into a much nicer, expanded student lounge.

If you haven't already, think about joining the Facebook group for your class as a way to talk about whatnot and see who some of your classmates will be.

Enjoy your summer and for your own sanity, do NOT study anything until you set foot on campus! 🙂
